Post Match Thread: Kiev 1 - 3 City

Tonight was the perfect remedy after a rough couple of months. It's a result to be savoured, to be enjoyed. Having read through the thread up until this point it's hard to fathom what it will take to cheer some fans up. If you can't feel the joy after a win like tonight, a win that puts us in the box seat for a quarter final place, then you're not doing it right.
Some people don't enjoy feeling happy. It's not their fault. It's just the way they're hard-wired. Like I said: I pity them.

Outstanding performance, we look so much better when we actually play with a game plan, unfortunately we seem to reserve them to the CL. First half was as good as I can recall us playing, completely destroying them and should have been 4 up. Second half was sloppier and Clichy went to shit, but we still should have had another 3 in that half as well. Battered a team at home that never gets even beaten at home. Chuffed

So many fans with sand in their vaginas. We finally get a good performance and we get shithouse comments.

Great performance overall for me and deserved win, Defense was good, Hart kept us in it with the save at 2-1 has to start on sunday, Sterling was our best player and Kun, Yaya, two Ferns and Silva all played well. Not to sound arrogant but I think that is job done.

Great win. Totally deserved it and more. This is what you get if you can play nearly the best 11. Well done Pellegrini for setting us up perfectly. Although he won't get the credits as it's in most systems he is a clueless old man. I'm just happy to see the old City again. Gives a lot of confidence for Sunday.

Pellegrini's 1st year, wins league cup and league. Managers of the year? Rodgers and Pullis. Absolute joke. Lets hope he does the same again in his last year.

They're missing out on all that is great about football. It can give you lows but the highs make you forget them soon enough. Tonight's result doesn't require any nit picking. They've received a lot of critiscm recently so deserve a night off I reckon. :-)

Totally agree.

...and Hart with a great save.

....still couldn't run though :) I thought he had one of his best games for us tonight, and he still wasn't our best player.

Such a sad comment, on a very good night. I'm not surprised though.

Even sadder comment.

Hard to argue.

No the rags have won there.

^This.

We were brilliant tonight, best we've played all season, from back to front, and more importantly from front to back, because we defended from the front, something that regularly annoys the f*ck out of me.

In order....

Fernandhino - 10
Sterling - 9
Fernando - 9
Sagna - 9
Yaya - 8
Silva - 8
Otamendi - 8
Sagna - 8
Clichy - 7
Kompany - 7
Hart - 7

Same team Sunday for me (injuries permitting), and anywhere near the same performance, we should be celebrating.

So let me get this right...

Sagna got - 17 out of 10 ;)

Great post by the way

Reading this thread has made me realise: if we'd have won every title going since 01/09/08, some of our supporters would be moaning that we hadn't lobbied hard enough to create more competitions.

Ultimately, that must be a desperate and pitiful world to inhabit.

well said, sir, well said.
bollox to the miserablists.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I've just logged in and not read the thread. Is someone moaning after that performance? I don't think I dare look.
Yep. Were lucky we didn't play PSG or Bayern, or Barca........oh, regardless of the fact that we got this favourable draw after finishing top of the group of death.

Why would I? I'm happy we won but doesn't mean I enjoyed what I saw, we consistently play bad, you can't go from looking on top and comfortable in the first half to nervous in the second because you're 2-0 up, we will be and have been punished for acting this way and with it so close to cup final day that performance tonight doesn't fill me with the up most confidence that a "great performance" would and should do.

Its fine if people don't want or like hearing criticism of City but blind sighting it to negativity is just being vague, I pick out the bad parts of our game and continue to do so be because its practically every week I see these faults and if I can see them and others can see them then why can't the coaching staff and the management see them?

Its all well saying we're in a final, we're close to the CL quarters, we're only 6 points off the top.... But I've even said to my mates if we were to win the league or a trophy at least I'd be happy obviously but at the same time I'd still be disappointed in our season as the level of football I've seen week in week out has been shoddy given the position the club is at and where we are.
I don't exactly agree with what you've said here, Tricky, because we weren't as bad as you appear to be making out. We controlled the first half and kept them at arm's length despite some sloppy possession in the second half. Yep, Hart had to make that save at 1-2 but that's what he's there for - in the end he's still part of our defence on that pitch doing a job like the rest of them.

But you're right to raise concerns about our inability to effectively see off average teams in Europe, because it's something that's surprisingly endemic outside of the elite sides on the continent. You'll see it change next season because of who we'll have in charge, but for the next three months we're going to see things like Clichy needlessly giving the ball away and inviting ten minutes of pressure because he didn't get his head up, or one of our defenders hoofing the ball forward when under pressure rather than knocking it back to Hart to keep possession. It's something that has plagued English football for years and it's why we never win major tournaments at an international level. It's why I always chuckle when you hear, for example, an Everton fan say England could do better at major tournaments if they did a, b and c, before berating John Stones for not punting the ball aimlessly forward.

You're also right to say we've under-performed massively under Pellegrini's stewardship but I think that's for another thread.
