Post Something Interesting

The financial crash of 1720 caused by the South Sea Bubble forced the British government to take on a pile of debt. We are still paying interest on it over 300 years later.
 
Not sure how interesting this is, but I had a wonderful afternoon in the garden with a Robin.
I was putting up a fence because the 5 month old pup I have is digging up and eating everything in the garden.

Our resident Robin came down and practically landed on my lap. I threw out some meal worm for him and he came back with his spring partner. The two of them were literally two foot from me and I’m only sorry I didn’t get a picture.

I’ll be back out there tomorrow. I’ll have my phone camera ready.

We had a resident robin for a couple of years. As soon as Mrs KS appeared in the garden, there he was, following her about.
 
Despite the popular myth about "Dad's Army", the true average age for members of the Home Guard during WW11 was around 30.
Many of the volunteers were young men & women from reserved occupations such as miners, farmers and ammunition workers.
 
We had a new dog in the office last week who does the dog-head-tilt thing every time he hears a weird noise. I looked it up and it turns out dogs do this because they hear better if their ears are at an angle. Never knew that, I thought they were just confused.

I was in our garage the other day and one was perched on my fishing rods at the back of the garage, watching me. I've called him Reg as he sits under the front of the car, waiting for stuff.....

Talking of birds, last week I had two incidents of note.
I have a lot of hedging around my property, occupied by a large colony of House Sparrows. Last week, and on a few previous occasions, a Sparrow Hawk attacked. The noise level of Sparrows "screaming" in obvious terror is awful to hear. The hawk left empty handed but hung around for a few minutes.
Second incident was when I observed a pair of Buzzards circling high over my garden whilst being harried and chased by a coalition of Gulls and Crows, again, accompanied by a lot of squawking and screaming.

it's peapod season here
so i've been gorging on them with masses of fresh mint

they drink mint tea all day long
they eat tons of peas this time of year
but they have never ever heard of the combination

minted fucking peas!
