Pre & Post Match | U21 Derby - 11th February

Doubt Simon Davies will be there for very long, wasn't impressed with the tactics at all. I just can't imagine Pep being pleased with that when he arrives.

Knock it around between the defenders for a while, then a big hoof up the park. We weren't playing into the centre midfielders anywhere close to enough. It's like Barcelona trying to play possession football but not giving it to Xavi or Iniesta. Just wrong.

A.Garcia - oh dear. Sorry but he isn't good enough. I find it hard to believe there's no local players at that level.
out with the old!!

no sign of advanced coaching or tactics, still running down blind alleys at the end just as they did at the start. Having watched Italian kids teams the difference in football intelligence and ball skills is very apparent
Until the prem introduces a B league these games will remain meaningless imo, kids playing kids does not help them to step up to mens football . Playing in a league of mixed age group in front of a few hundred fans will bridge the gap to the first team more quickly, sadly those who could make it happen dont admit there is a problem

Not a great game really, certainly not from our lads after their best performance of the season against Liverpool.

United were incredibly well organised, and had a really clear game plan. 10 men behind the ball, knock it up to Keane and then get runners off him, and it worked really well for them. Keane's hold up play was good, but you'd expect that from a guy Playing against defenders 5 years younger than him.

Faced with This defence , our lot were just short of answers and couldn't quite find a way to unpick the lock.

I thought Tosin looked good, there was an obvious counter attacking threat from United and his reading of the game snuffed out a good few of them. Humphries looked much better at RB than Ash SB, who just looked short of pace to get past his man.

Celina is not a centre forward...that's all that needs to be said about that really, you could tell he was being asked to do a job he's not suited to.

Aleix Garcia looked quite frustrated out there by a lack of runners, but United stayed deep and made sure there was no space for him to ping those lovely balls over the top we saw vs. liverpool and it was an impossible task to thread balls through the11 Man United defence. Liked the way he really tried to force things at the end, it felt like if we were going to equalise then it would have involved him.

Barker and Bytiqi got isolated and perhaps should have come inside looking for the ball more- But then again with United having so many men back And so deep there wasn't a lot of room. They looked better after switching wings.

Overall United had their game plan and did it well. It wasn't exactly great football but it was effective and you can see why they're unbeaten at home.

Gunn - 7 - Made a good 1 on 1 save early on and could do nothing about the goal.
Smith-Brown - 5 - Never really got involved, didn't support attacks well enough.
Adarabioyo - 6 - Made some good covering challenges.
Bryan - 5 - Think it was him caught out on the goal, other than that solid enough.
Angelino - 7 - Won the ball high up the pitch a couple of times and also driven us forward a couple of times. Ready for some 1st team game time.
M. Garcia - 5 - Invisible man tonight, kept the ball well but didn't do much.
A. Garcia - 6 - Slight better than his namesake, kept the ball but again didn't do much, chances he had were blocked.
Glendon - 5 - Kept the ball but just wasn't involved.
Bytyqi - 5 - Failed to beat his man and deliver anything of substance.
Barker - 5 - Same as above, although had better luck on the right...just.
Celina - 5 - Not involved, played out of position.

Faupala - 5 - Held the ball up better but didn't do much.
Humphreys - 5 - Out of position, didn't have much time to do anything.
Kongolo - Late sub, can't really rate him because of that.

Simon Davies - 1 - Poor tactics, poor changes, didn't really change anything, don't think he'll survive the staff changes when Pep arrives.

Didn't really want to give 4's as they are all youth players and still learning but the attacking 3 could have been rated lower they were that isolated.

For anyone with little experience of the Eds,please dont use that game as a yard stick.......it was terrible, both individually and as a team.Davies better make the most of the next 3 months.

It felt like one of the worst EDS performances I can recall but it was against strong team who basically parked the bus and broke quite well. I guess Davies was a little linited in who he might select but it does baffle me why we throw Celina up front when we have a genuine centre forward on the bench. Faupala might not be the greatest but he plays the role better than Celina imo and has the strength to win some physical battles which Celina can't.

As ever most of the Utd threats were coming from shocking defending by us.Their goal was great from their perspective but a joke from ours. Long ball caught out our two center backs and they reacted quickest to get up and support. We did some things well in defence but at other times I was wondering what the hell was going on.

But it was our lack of quality going forward that was the problem. I was hoping for something from Barker tonight but he looked lost and almost scared to go for it like I know he can. Manu Garcia was anonymous as was Glendon. Alex Garcia was much more involved but he would be as he was the deepest lying midfielder who was always given the ball but there was so little happening in front of him it made him look poor. The touch of our forward players was awful.

We just lost one nil to a shit team! Hopefully we can reverse that a week on Saturday.

Dear god i fear for the future, I assume training is the same for all levels at city.
It was like watching the first team, dire defending, players standing waiting for the ball to arrive at their feet instead of moving towards it, passes across the pitch then backwards again, corners that come to nothing, the only difference i really saw was that we didnt give the ball back to the opposition on EVERY throwin.

i've stopped going to the kids' games on the whole, mainly because with Pellegrini in charge, I think I'm wasting my fucking time & I'm being conned.

But I was working & recorded that tonight, & have just watched it. I can't fucking believe what I have just seen. I wouldn't even give one of those kids a place on the sub's bench o the strength of that, yet I have seen them play, many times & I know how much better, every single one can be. But irrespective of the individual performances, where was the 'holistic' 'City way' in that ? What the fucking hell is going on ? That wasn't a City team, win lose or draw, that game tonight was like watching the rags, v the rags. Absolute fucking shite.

We have completely lost it, on the strength of that & just look like every other no mark, directionless fucks at every other no mark team.

From Patrick Vieiera to this ???

Sort it ffs.

Wow, I'm not sure why I'm that bothered by your post but I just couldn't let that last, spectacularly dimwitted sentence, slide by unchallenged.
You have written off the career of an 18 year old kid on the basis of 90 minutes, and done it on a public forum forum that knowledgeable City fans read, just think about that.
That's the first time I've seen the lad play but by all accounts he's a deep playmaker type who likes pinging ball out wide or over the top to runners (happy to be corrected by those who have seen more of him). That talent gets somewhat restricted when the opponent scores on the break after 15 minutes and spends the rest of the game parked across their 18 yard line. He didn't look great last night but he still put in a shift and was very close to getting past the bus in the dying embers.
Oh and he absolutely ran the the last EDS game against Liverpool apparently, with several good judges eulogising about him afterwards.
Finally there were several 'local' players born in Manchester playing for us last night and there's stacks more in the U16's and U18's, I'm only a casual follower of the kids teams and I'm aware of this. Try a little harder maybe.
