Premier League Games 12/13/14 January '24

Football would be a very different game without offside.
Yeah; pretty much all fans hate/dislike offside. But if it was scrapped, the game would turn into a "goal hangers' charter". Utilising offside is a skill, like it or not. Having your back line keeping a straight line, along with stepping up at just the right time is an art. As is the ability to spring the offside trap with a perfectly timed run to get on the end of a precise pass.

This is what’s confusing me, the pass goes to Bailey so not like there was a question on interfering. They must have been checking something else but without audio we will probably never know what.

I’ve said it before and don’t want to sound like a broken record but I think within five years offsides will be decided instantaneously by a “virtual linesman” and the only thing referees will need to go back on is whether players are interfering (which only matters in a small number of cases). They have to prioritise working on that because the number of goals ruined by late offside calls at the moment is too high.
We could have had the semi automated version already, which would minimise human error and ineptitude.

I have no clue why he decided to check the rest of the APP. Once he’s offside, the rest is irrelevant. It can only be because he didn’t trust himself to draw the lines accurately, can’t it?
