Were you at this particular gig? Just wondering what the audience reaction was because it seemed to me from the video that his rant was met with approval. Or did everyone walk out in disgust?

It didn't matter where he did it as it resonated around the world and clearly made it back to Trump.
He, quite rightly thought he was on friendly ground. Manchester is left of centre politically and more sympathetic to Springsteens political leanings rather than Trumps.
Now, I would hazard a guess that every member of that audience would rather have had a 3 hour performance which included a 3-minute rant against a tyrant, rather than just a 90-minute gig.
People over here are interested in American politics, as it impacts us all. You only have to look at how it has affected all our pensions.
Fair play to Springsteen for speaking out. We need more of his ilk.

Totally disagree
When i go to the Etihad, I wouldn't expect Guardiola to grab a mic and start lecturing me on Catalonian independence
I hate trump and wish he would die, but if Springsteen wants to have a political rant, he should be doing it in his homeland not at a gig in a foreign country

What you don’t seem to be taking into account is that Springsteen’s songs are political, and that resonates with his fans who have an affinity with what he writes.

The whole tour is themed as the land of hope and dreams tour. The whole essence of the tour is political. I am not sure what people expected with this tour. Did they expect Gabrielle to come on stage and do a duet to her Dreams tune?

Not a minutes long rant at a gig
If he introduced one of his songs as dedicated to .... then that's fair enough

I'm certain there are TV networks in the US who'd be thrilled at an hour long Springsteen special where he could voice his political opinions and sing a few tunes

To be blunt, yes. They are totally different situations. You're complaining about something that had no material impact or relevance to your life.
I have not heard a single complaint from someone who went to the gig.
If everyone who went to the gig was happy with what happened why are you arsed?
You're either arsed because you don't agree with his political opinions. From what you have posted, you seem to agree with his views.
You might be arsed because the fans did not get value for money as he was wasting time. Well that's nonsense as he played for 3 hours.
Or, you are arsed because he had a political rant. If no one in the arena was arsed and they paid money to be there, why are you arsed?
Your view makes absolutely no rational sense on any level.
