What a strange world we live in when a country can be suspended from International Football if a country's football body is the subject of political interference. Yet here we have Trump gobbing off about moving chosen venues for the World Cup. Surely that is a matter between FIFA and the ruling body of football in the US. Why don't FIFA just tell him to FO as it's nothing to do with him and his political agenda.

Not sure he can do that and if he does then I hope NY tell him to fuck himself and just keep whatever they normally put in the federal coffers for themselves. They'd probably be better off

I suppose I should expound on this.

Both my parents were Republican. Very, very deeply so.

Later in life, my Dad surprised me - having remarried into a wife and family that were very much liberal, I think he changed his mind. He was supportive of Dianne Feinstein late in life - which surprised the hell out of me.

My mother was deeply religious - and bought a copy of one of Pat Buchanan's books - "For the Right" - I can't recall - which I immediately discarded.

So... both of my parents were very, very far right - both were educated, my Dad a PHd in mathematics - and, were they in their 30's brought to life circa 2016... I think that they both would have voted for Trump.

My father was at least persuadable - and I think if he were alive in 2024 - and married to his third wife for several years... I don't think that he would have voted for Trump.

My mother was so much wrapped into Catholicism... that I don't know how she would vote. At the same time she adored her daughter - my sister - and later in life loved my sister's children - one of whom turned out to be a lesbian. It's not clear to me what my mother thought of this - but she loved her grandchildren - so she either got over this issue or didn't know.

Which brings me back to my objection to your misquote.

Unfortunately, there's so much misinformation and inflammatory dialog in modern discourse that facts are routinely ignored - and moreover, the natural inclination for humans is tribalism - seek out those who profess beliefs in alignment with your own. Most such... IMO - are kind, but mislead individuals.

If you want to label the mislead as "cunts" - fair play - but don't misquote me as stating such.

I think that many of those who voted for Trump were simply misled.

I suspect you have mixed up fascism with its child national socialism. The fact that he worked to stop Jews dying is irrelevant to a charge of fascism. Classical fascism was not racist. Interestingly, the list omits ‘Bella figura’ which is an obsession with outward appearance, the main theme of Hegseth’s rant at the generals and crucial to Italian fascism.

Difficult to keep federal taxes out of Trumps hands. Most of them are collected directly by a witholding system. So employers send them directly to Washington. That’s why the ‘beautiful bill’ majors on Medicare etc. Trump plans not to send the funds to the states, to insurance companies, to hospitals etc etc. The tax credits for ACA are enormous and witholding them from insurance companies is the cause of the gov shutdown.

A fundamental difference separating trump and his buddy - designated war criminal Netanyahu - from broader-minded politicians is that trump is happy to make thousands suffer, lest a single person with whom he has a personal axe to grind should escape retribution; any right-minded person worthy of the office of POTUS*, on the other hand, would readily accept that a single person must be allowed to slip through the net, should it mean that thousands of others would avoid any suffering.

(* considering that US have voted him in twice now, it's actually open to debate just what being 'worthy of the office of POTUS' actually means, now - this post assumes the old, pre-trump standards)

It was amusing to see that Hegseth went ballistic when he saw photos of National Guardsmen clambering out of a truck in some city he was trying to take over for his boss. He demanded they be replaced as to put it politely they were porkers. One wonders if he has ever strolled round a Disney site to see the state of many of his fellow Americans
