Priti Vacant has a plan, a deal with migrants plan.

So I heard this being discussed on LBC radio yesterday and it got me thinking:

Nick Ferrari I think it was, kept asking: 'what happens if as border force approaches a boat of migrants, they threaten to (or do) jump into the sea?' well surely the border force vessel then rescues them and then takes them to France. Nobody suggested this - well if they did, I hadn't heard it, as I had to go to work.

“The choice

Live in a war torn country, no house, no food, cold and no future

or

Live in a prison in the UK, a roof over your head, 3 meals a day, not as cold and nobody is going to shoot you dead.”

Or maybe stay in France?

There is no legal agreement between UK and France to return them. They would be brought to the UK. We tried to replicate the legal agreement that we had as EU members which allowed us to return them but the EU declined, as did France.

This is why there is so much frothing over the issue. We are powerless to return them, so drowning them in the Channel is the only option the Govt has left, other than accepting them in the UK.

Not convinced drowning kids in the Channel is a vote winner, but I’m sure the Govt will give it a go.

Obviously agree with that last bit, however on the radio they were saying that whether its laws between France and the UK, or general maritime laws that have existed worldwide for a long time, the government can invoke 'emergency powers' in time of need, to override them.

I think a global pandemic that can be tackled when population movement is curtailed (look at New Zealand) could have been considered as cause to introduce such 'emergency powers'....

At the end of the day it is all hot air about nothing - funny that on the day after what is probably the end of the summer weather for 2021, they start talking tough on 'push-back' & we all know it will never happen.

I do have one solution: I also heard on the media this week that one big pull factor attracting migrants from France to the UK is that we speak English so therefore, everyone here should learn French before next spring - problème résolu!

It seems like piriti makes about one well timed populist hang em high/ anti- immigrant policy announcement each month nothing ever actually happens. I suspect this is more about getting the nation to look the other way rather than pick holes in Boris's NI tax hike.

The attraction of the UK will be family and existing community ties. Language will be a factor but most refugees do not come to the UK. Last year Germany accepted 128k, Spain 124k, France 90k. We had 30k applications and not all are accepted. The UK barely makes the top twenty of European countries for refugees when adjusted for size of population.

And yes this all hot air because hot air is all we have left. Without the agreement of other countries we are reduced to dreaming up increasingly bizarre and desperate solutions. Here is a completely unbiased source for anyone who wants to see the context of claims vs reality: https://fullfact.org/immigration/how-many-refugees-does-uk-take/

Get them driving HGV's and that's the food shortages sorted.
