Looks like they've given themselves the safety net tho ... of having to accept that the individual is a British National if their application (?) for nationality of another country is denied.


It will just mean large legal bills for all involved.

Whilst far from a fan of Ms Patel, I don't actually have a huge issue with this and think it is yet another of those stories about Immigration/Nationality that always trigger strong reactions.

Whilst there are so many "ifs" in the whole situation which makes it difficult to write a short article on the subject it certainly will create lots of work and lovely money for the lawyers.

One of the interesting things I found from this and another issue with the article being short, was that it made no reference to some nationalities on the list that actually do not allow "dual nationality". I think, the primary one is actually India. So if following the principles of Indian nationality law, on receipt of the B/Cit status they have presumably renounced their Indian nationality formally which then means they cannot have their B/Cit status revoked otherwise they would be rendered stateless.
