Pro Gay campaign in the Premeier League this weekend

That's exactly how it should be. I'm not even sure if it teaches tolerance or whatever it's supposed to do. It somehow sends a message these people are different let's not make fun of them.

I grew up watching gays on tv like Julian clarey, barrymore, boy George. You knew they were gay but didn't think of them as any different

And can we also have a day for heterosexual footballers, Christian footballers . . . . .?

I mean, there must be some of them!

That's the point.

We know which are definitely heterosexual because they have wives and children, or have been caught doing something they shouldn't. We know how many are religious as they run on the pitch and make the sign of the cross, or publicly declare their love of {insert name of deity}, but as of this day we have very few, maybe none, who have declared their (homo)sexuality, and this is not consistent with other professions.

I bet players with skin diseases or mental health problems are taking much more shit than those mythical homosexuals in dressing rooms.
But who gives a sh!t about young lad ashamed because of psoriasis or the one fighting bipolar every day? No powerful and wealthy lobby behind them.
Times, where that was a fight for "equality" are long gone.

There have recently been considerable efforts in the UK mainstream media to address the issue of mental health in sport. As someone with bipolar disorder I've found all of these efforts respectful, well-informed and accessible to all. I feel we've come a long way since 'two Andy Gorams' and the Sun disgracefully calling Frank Bruno a nutcase, mainly through highly public tragedies such as Robert Enke and Gary Speed's suicides. It's heartening to see the backward prats in the 'Get a Grip Gang' finally admonished for their ignorance. It might not be the same in Poland and that's certainly lamentable.

If I was a footballer you wouldn't catch me dead with rainbow laces..why is it that to support the gay people they have to go over the top and request players wear pink shoes or rainbow laces? If your gay fine have fun with ur skittles laces but if your straight let them wear whatever..just my opinion

We must be mindful that those who don't lace up are by no means homophobic. It is entirely a personal choice

Thanks for those wonderful, insightful words of wisdom Joey...... lol.

As mentioned earlier in this thread I thought this was a nice idea.

However, with the constant social media posting by Stonewall and papers clocking on to this, the attention seeking is becoming quite cringey. The Whole Everton team will be sporting these laces on Saturday (most definitely to gain good PR). So what do they do if a player doesn’t wear the laces? The Sun starts a witch hunt identifying homophobes? Ok it won’t be that extreme but the way they are banging on about this campaign is a bit OTT.

Every known attention seeker is using this to boost their own PR. Barton is banging on about it and now Lineker has requested laces for MOTD on Saturday.
