Professional footballers just don't much care about us fans

tbh i dont expect payers to be loyal. players want 3 things. all want money, all want success, and quite a few want fame. and why blame them? they have a 10 year peak in their career and they should milk every fucking drop out of it. as long as they want the success we want and work hard on the pitch i dont care. for me, its only zaba, kompany and nige who REALLY care about city (reckon silva could join the list should he stay a few years). ill support any player in manchester city blue, but i support the club, players come an go and in 20 years our team will be completely different, but us fans will still be here

The only one club wonders I can think of are:

John Terry, Stevie Gerrard, Scholes, G Neville, Giggs, Matt Le Tissier

Anyone else?

Interesting that Neville (the twat - sorry, it's obligatory) said recently that he's taken the decision to retire because he personally felt he was becoming a passenger. That's rare in pro football. Look at Danny Mills FFS!

I agree that Matt le Tiss in particular was a example of aplayer who put club loyalty first, but he was a very much an exception.

That was mainly down to his character, with being from Jersey he's so laid back he's horizontal

If the sheik said to messi i will give you £1millon a week to play for us and offered barca £100 mill...Would he be loyal to them..money will always talk, you just keep uppin it & uppin it and they will come!!!

I think the 10 year peak career thing only works from a success angle - most of the top players earn a normal 10 years wages nearly every week !

Fuly agree that it's the club that matters most.

well the average player retires at 40.. give or take if i were a professional football player id want enough in the bank when i reached that age never to have to work in any capacity again and live to the standard i did while playing

I'd shuffle through a season on Jo's wages. £5 million would do me to retire.

true of 90% of our squad, however certain there are individuals, de jong for example that really love the club. watch him at the end of every game and every interview he is a hero. would make him our captain me

could'nt agree more mate.

I love Nige but you can only say that if the guy stays here for the next 8 seasons or so. He could bang in a transfer request tomorrow and he will go to a villain in the space of 5 minutes.

If i was a professional footballer i too wouldn't give a fuck about the fans. The majority of fans are clueless kneejerkers who do not understand football on the whole, they may know the offside rule, they may know the difference between a good player and an average one but all the bits in between, why decisions are made, the job they do, they haven't a clue and they are only a bad run of form away from being abused, booed and their commitment questioned.

Of course you get those who do care for the club they play for, infact you get alot of them but if the oppourtunity arises to better yourself then you will go, it is the same in football as it is in the office or the warehouse but footballers are supposed to act different.

Also i don't buy into the likes of Giggs, Gerrard, Neville, Scholes ect being loyal servants, it is easy to be loyal when you are at the top of your game and the only move away from the club is either a sideways move or a backwards one.

Footballers aren't robots, they are the same as us except they can kick a ball better, they should stop being treated as non human.

I hate football fans on the whole.

I'm not hijacking your thread here mammutly, and this is addressed to you first and foremost (and it is NOT a dig):

would you play for a club offering 50% of what a club you cannot stand would offer you? Play around with the percentages if you like. Play around with the actual offer. Play around with the clubs...a club you like v a club you are neutral about....a club you hate v a club you like and so on. For instance, if you were offered 100k a week to play for PSG (assume you detest them), but were offered 35k a week for play for Stade Rennais (a club you like, but you aren't a fan), would you go to Rennes?
