Prog Rock Sucked!

Where I grew up it was the wimpy middle class kids into punk and the working class kids into heavy rock/metal.... The prog v punk was much more a 6th form phenomena. I was working in a bakery and the musical snobbery was not existent. Opened my eyes to loads of stuff I wouldn't have had I stayed entrenched in school/playground posturing...
I like good Prog, punk, soul, fusion, rock, jazz, funk, New Wave etc .... I draw the line at none authentic, written and produce by committee modern stuff but I also love Motown which is of the same ilk...

Pretenders, Gary Numan, Bowie and the Police shit 70's bands?
Good 70s bands , but hardly punk. Punk was done dusted by then though.Any punks left were doing hardcore metal and speed metal. I have no issue with punk though, my issue is with the notion it was any kind of dinosaur killing meteor. It had little to no impact on those bands that came before, and last long after punk had been and gone. Still do roam the earth some of those bands and artists.

Where I grew up there weren't any middle class kids and everyone was into punk.

There is no doubt that punk changed the music scene in a huge way though.
One day we were being force fed Lena Zavaroni, Rolf Harris and David Soul.
The next day we were listening to the Damned, the pistols and the Clash.
It might not have literally killed off some of those bands but it meant that they were shoved onto the back burner and essentially killed off for many of us.

Well, it did, though I'm sure if you look though the decades since ,every decade has its own version of Lena Zavaroni, Rolf Harris and David Soul in the charts. Even before punk ,though the charts were full of Lena Zavaroni, Rolf Harris and David Soul, I was listening to plenty of non singles chart album music.
If punk did one thing it led to young teenage metal bands doing there own releases, and releasing shorterand faster songs, bands like Maiden, Saxon who then went on to do covers of those old prog bands,as they matured.

Was it a little village in the middle of nowhere?
