Prog Rock Sucked!

Punk gave us an alternative, but it didn't change anything...in fact, it got WORSE. Good 70s rock was replaced with Judas Priest and Saxon!

you guys who think music is pigeonholed are simply showing that your taste is right, and everyone else is wrong. If you can’t understand that, you are arrogant and narrow-minded. Good music is good music, just because you think your taste should be shared by everyone just goes to show that you are thick.

No I won't, you're wrong. Punk was great for a short period, but was very short lived 3 maybe 4 years and everything it supposedly killed off was around long after punk, and is still around. As punk itself became more arty and bloated.
Punk didn’t just disappear, it’s always been around. I got into US melodic hardcore/skate punk etc in the 90s and a lot of those bands started up in the late 70s and early 80s and are still going now, as are a lot of UK punk bands.

Yes, thats true like most types of music it still survives but as lots of sub groups.

Where I grew up it was the wimpy middle class kids into punk and the working class kids into heavy rock/metal.... The prog v punk was much more a 6th form phenomena. I was working in a bakery and the musical snobbery was not existent. Opened my eyes to loads of stuff I wouldn't have had I stayed entrenched in school/playground posturing...
I like good Prog, punk, soul, fusion, rock, jazz, funk, New Wave etc .... I draw the line at none authentic, written and produce by committee modern stuff but I also love Motown which is of the same ilk...
I never saw the Prog v Punk rivalry. It was more a Punk v Classic Rock but what I saw was a kind of getting on together.
Mods, skins and rude boy 2-toners were a different matter.
