PROPER City away following Leeds 1978

I went to a fa cup match at elland road late 70s cant remember the year, when I was a teen about 14 or 15,Police where very heavy handed arresting people for singing, IT was kicking off all over from when we left the coach to when we got back on it,Coach next to ours got badley bricked when we was leaving. All I can remember off the match is Kidd catching the ball and we won.

I remember it as if it was yesterday, i was a strapping 12yr old!!! I remember the ref doing the announcement over the tannoy along the lines of ' i'll not abandon the game and we'll play until midnight if it takes it' or words to that effect. A good character test for any pre-teen that game.

And you try and tell the kids of today that and they won't believe you.

did anyone go to the game i think the year after when cherry scored we lost one nill, it was a dodgy situation inside and outside the ground?

I went to this match with my brother (who's a member on here as well) My memories of this game started about two weeks or three weeks previously as we'd been to the league match against them, where we had got beat (can't remember the score) and on the way back in the car the draw for the third round of the cup was made with us being drawn away against them again. When they invaded the pitch trying to get the game abandoned I remember the ref saying that the game would be played at midnight if necessary. Also Gary Owen came over to where we all were making sure we didn't go onto the pitch and as far as I can remember no City fan went onto the pitch. Afterwards was mayhem and it was a case of legging it to the car as fast as you could, everyone got a smack around the head and they were lobbing house bricks at us as well. Always remember that in those days Elland Road only had 3 floodlights and we always used to sing "Subbuetteo" Great days I was 20 our kid was 24. Both old bastards now, but it's always good to see that team which apart from the current side is the last time we had a decent team. I think we finished 4th that year but I may be wrong!!

Loving this thread, some great stories from our older fans who were just young lads at the time. I suppose you never forget those scary away days once you've had bricks thrown at you or had you're old man try and protect you. It must've been thrilling to go to places like Elland Road with thousands of barmy City fans.

This is the game that I was arrested inside the ground as the players were coming out of the tunnel before the start of the game. I was handcuffed and escorted around the ground and past their kop end when they started singing nice one copper nice one son, I think you know the rest.

Anyway I was put in a cell under the stadium along with other City fans and leeds fans and it kicked off in their also. There was piss about an inch deep in the cells because the cops wouldn't let anybody out for a piss. They said the last one out would have to clean it up. I didn't see a ball kicked and to cap off my day the cameramen at the BBC decided to go and strike and match of the day was cancelled that night.

Oh the joys of following City.

I was 17 and went and remember being terrified as the police forced us to walk the gauntlet after the game, through a narrow funnle of thousands of leeds fans between the ground and the coach park, where we we bombarded with hundreds of bricks, wankers, big time.
the year before, went with my dad and they threw loads of darts from the seats behind our standing area, saw loads of fellow blues with darts embedded in their faces, one had a dart stuck right in the bridge of his nose, fucking animals TBH!

I have a vague memory of going to Leeds when I was 7 or 8 so it would have been around this time. I remember it kicking off with the players on the pitch and the fans off it. One paticular thing that sticks in my head was whilst my dad was off helping his mate who was getting a kicking in the ground it also kicked off on the pitch, Brian Kidd ran the full width of the pitch and without breaking stride he nutted a Leeds player, I can see all his curly mop hurtling forward as I write this. Does ANYONE remember this?

remember the game in 77 when Cherry scored about 3minutes from time,Corrigan and Jordan knocked fuck out of each other from a corner at their kop end,if it happened now they'd have both got season long bans
