Prostate cancer

Yes I’ll tell you all I had no symptoms I stopped smoking 6 months ago as I was 52 took a look at my lifestyle and decided it needs to change I started my family relatively a late stage I was in my 40s when I had my two girls watched city all over drunk smoked and thought blimey im not in my 20s/30s so I just went to doctors asked for a MOT where they take blood samples they test you for around eight possible conditions and my PSA came back high on my prostate. I’m not into wanting to frighten no one at all but just don’t ignore your age as I said prostate cancer from my experience doesn’t carry symptoms but as with cancer can spread. If even one of you lads goes and makes an appointment then it’s a result.
My dad (early 70's) has just had an elevated PSA on his last checkup. It's not hugely high for his age, but it's almost double compared to his last check up. Hopefully nothing to worry about, but he's due some further tests.

They will obviously monitor him and act if it goes up dramatically, some men live with it for many years without treatment/surgery. Fingers crossed for your Dad, as stated on here even if invasive treatment is required as long as there is no spread Prostate cancer is 80% curable.

My uncle was diagnosed with it about 15 years ago and had a Op to remove his prostate. Unfortunately the surgeon nicked his bowel during the op and he ended up in a bad way. Totally the surgeons fault. He ended up having to have a section of bowel removed and lives with a colostomy bag. Cancer free though, which isn't a bad thing.

Apologies for the scare story. I was told it was an incredibly rare occurrence, and I would always take that very slim risk rather than the alternative.

Blimey that’s terrible but a reasonably good outcome. Mrs H suffered a medical disaster in 1984, I won’t go into details but it was horrendous and badly managed, I think people these days would litigate against the NHS but it was so distressing at the time we let it go.

He had it done privately, but I believe he took legal action.

Had my first cup this morning, very nice, I’ll alternate it with my green and lemon and ginger tea, think I overpaid but I get 72 brews for the price of 3 pints, cheers, literally :-)
