Prostate cancer

Scary how your life changes in a heartbeat. Had a few issues since earlier this year just thought it was a bladder stone maybe? Had a ct scan then tuesday attended Hospital for a cystoscopy to find out I have an ugly looking tumour in my bladder giving me the finger... So have to have a TURBT in the next 2 weeks.. Very optimistic its early but ifanyone else has gone through that treatment I'd like to hear.
Good luck in all this and remain positive pal

Are the meds Finasteride and Tamsulosin? Going back a few years that is what I was put on for an enlarged prostate. The Finasteride shrinks the prostate but I wasn’t checked after 3 months. Long term the Finasteride, whilst being good for my hair, started to have other effects, notably erectile dysfunction so I stopped it - got a row off my doctor for not telling her but it had shrunk the prostate. It also reduces PSA levels so they need to apply a correction factor. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the ”pipe work” and certainly helped me with peeing.
Hope it all works out OK for you.
Cheers mate, it's Tamsulosin I'm taking for 3 months and got follow up appointment for end on November

Appointment this morning and happy with the results. Continue to take the Tamsulosin and signed off from hospital. Told again cut down on my 3 cups of coffee a day and drink decaf where possible. Thanks to everyone on this thread for their help and support. In running my recent half marathon for prostate cancer I raised £1,215. Get checked guys Cheers

Hi all ,
I’m organising a walk as part of the March the month campaign for prostate cancer uk and hopefully raising awareness and a few Bob for a great cause. It’s Saturday the 25th of March and it’s a football free weekend. We’ll be setting off from Edale to Glossop to the bee hive pub where there’ll be food laid on. I’m hoping to secure free transport over to Edale. It’s a great walk quite tough in parts we go over kinder scout which is absolutely amazing . I’ll post a link very soon if anyone fancies it PM me.
Take care everyone.
Up the blues.

My Dad died of prostate cancer in his early 60's. I started to have issues a couple of years ago and have been diagnosed with prostatitis. However, the docs have advised me to get a PSA test every year just to keep an eye on things. Had my last one a few days ago. Fingers crossed it's OK, but I won't be worried if it's not as at least I know that if anything nasty does develop it will be caught early.

A friend of mine is also having issues but he won't go for a test as he's worried about finding out if something's wrong. I cannot begin to understand that thinking :-(

All the best with this Snake, friend of mine does ‘Kinder Scout’ regularly, he’s a Peak District lad at heart and a big hiker, he absolutely loves that walk, even moved back from the Lake District as he preferred it, so should tell anyone who’s never done it quite a bit.
I’ll try and make it myself but no promises as I’ve been having issues with my Calf/Achilles for a few months on and off, with no real set pattern as to why it does it (apart from changing my footwear briefly) but anyway, keep us updated :-).

That’s sad pal, regarding your friend just share stories from people on here and the odds are in his favour hugely, time is the essence definitely I can’t reiterate enough to get checked . I took myself along for a check up and dodged the biggest bullet known to men. The brutal truth and cancer is brutal that being diagnosed at 52 Christie’s told me I’d probably had it for two years and without worrying anyone the level I had I wouldn’t of got to 56 . Don’t wait for symptoms I didn’t have any. I’m not in anyway trying to scare anyone on here reading this .
Get to 50 get checked.

Up the blues.
