Prostate cancer

Got a call off Tameside urology just as I’d parked up on our weekly trip to Buxton with our grandson-
Took the call and was told by a Doc that the MRI scan was clear and my prostrate was not enlarged about the normal weight and mass for someone my age
However he was worried why my PSA was high and wanted to do a biopsy which I politely questioned….. evidently my assigned urology nurse was listening and somewhat abruptly he left the call and she took over which I still can’t understand
She was very sympathetic and said I was correct to question the need to have a biopsy and asked me to go to Tameside for a further PSA which I did on Friday
She said she fully expects my reading to be radically different from the previous 13.4 and no decisions or proposals should be muted until the results are known
I was elated but since Friday reservations are creeping back and not convinced I’m in the clear albeit if I have got it then it sounds that it’s been caught at its very earliest so much so that the tumour hasn’t yet developed and possibly only a biopsy and prostrate cell examination could detect it.
Expect to get a call Monday as the nurse said they’d have the results analysed within 6 hours
Again it’s vital to start this trauma for us all once past 50 in my opinion
My best mate is booked in for his off the back of my experiences so I call that a result too

At the end of the day a biopsy is nothing, it takes less than half an hour and you don't feel a thing and the main thing is you find out if you're clear or not.

My PSA was 4.6 and I thought twice about having it done and guess what, I was positive.

This was late 2017. Had Brachytherapy, Radiotherapy and hormone jabs. MY PSA is now 0.15.

I wouldn't hesitate to get it done.

Not just Prostate but all over 60’s get offered the FIT test which can highlight possible bowel cancer. Then at 65 you get invited for an Aortic Aneurysm test which is an ultrasound non invasive test, my Dad died from this so I’m going for mine shortly as now qualified.

These tests should not be ignored, I’m still waiting for my Endoscopy and Colonoscopy procedure’s as when I first went for them my BP was incredibly high, 235/111. They referred back to my Doctor and I’m now on increased BP tablets and I’m getting to normal levels, without the test I’d probably be heading towards a stroke or heart attack.

I’m currently reading these threads in the waiting room in Christie’s at the moment brings it home
It's a good thread you've started here and it's been helpful to a lot of us.

Hope the radiotherapy is going OK.

Got my biopsy on Thursday and I having a GA, which will be the first time ever, so that's probably the bit I'm most nervous about. At least I'll avoid the embarrassing chit-chat and smalltalk with the nurses :)

You’ll be fine Rob honestly it’s over done very quickly mate.

had psa done last week, doc reffered me to urology, got a call off Tameside hospital today, told me to go to hospital for a blood test for kidney function and should get a scan later this week

Woke up with a pain up my arse last night...yeah, yeah...i know there are loads of jokes that could follow that. But it wasn't funny!! Like a spasm. Extreme pain and then I passed out. My mind went all weird and I thought I was a goner. When I came around, I had a hissing sound in my ears and the sweat was pouring off me. Started dry vomiting continuously for 5 mins. Not nice, but I've looked it up and it's a known thing. Some mad name that I can't remember. Felt ok when i woke this morning.
I know it's not connected to the Prostate, but I couldn't find a relative thread to share my arse pain.

Just been to GP, my PSA was low and my prostate felt normal. No pain when examined and gp thinks symptoms are caused by irritable bladder so will try medication to see if it stops them.
That’s good News. I’m hoping for a similar outcome.
I’m currently having urology investigations to find the cause of recurrent urine infections - which are becoming more frequent (Four so far this year) but milder in nature. My symptoms are similar to those of an over-active bladder. Urgency and frequency but no burning sensation and no dribbles/hesitancy in these latest bouts. (Very) thorough prostate exam by Urologist who advised slightly enlarged prostate but said as normal for my age(68) and pronounced it healthy. My GP suggested bladder camera having already been ultrasound checked and cleared for stones and voiding issues. Never a trace of blood in urine and have been getting infections for 15 years or so. Used to be one every year or two.
Bit of a mystery at the moment.
Japs eye meets camera next Monday !
Also have to say this is a great thread in helping getting men to address these issues.

It was a bit extreme. I've had it before, so I kind of knew. I thought i was having a stroke when i passed out though...my mind totally collapsed for a few seconds! I've looked it up and some people do pass out with it. haha. Fcuking wimps, aren't we?
Doctor Google said there was nothing to worry about ;)

Yep. It wakes you up in the middle of the night. Maybe twice a year? A visit from the phantom bum spasm fiend! I don't like passing out...it doesn't feel good.

I get that, and it's not nice :-(
First got it back in 1986 when I was 22, the night before I started at a new workplace. Get it about twice a year now, as you say.
It's definitely anxiety/stress related (for me anyway). Has got less severe as I get older but I found that walking around, making a drink of hot milk and having a cig helped ;-)

I just put my hand up there and give the rogue muscle a little tickle. Usually does the job. Can get a bit messy ;)
Painkillers are useless as by the time they kick in, the spasm has eased off. Must be more common than I thought.
