Prostate cancer

Went for a PSA test today and results are available online already.

A bit alarmed that my PSA reading is 23, which seems off the scale, so I’ve booked an appointment with a specialist. I’m lucky to have private health care with my job.

Not panicking yet, but I’m a bit more concerned than I was before I went for the blood test this morning.

Not had any symptoms, and I just booked the test because I’m 55. As others have said, get it checked.

Good luck but try not to worry as I read recently that a PSA test isn’t that reliable.

Yeah, Dr Google has been busy and I came to that conclusion. It's just that the reading is so high.
But I'm booked in quickly and I'll take it step by step.
Rob, good luck pal. My mate had a 20 reading last year and was going through what you are now. It turned out to be some kind of infection in his urine or something along them lines which got sorted ASAP. Could and hopefully is a host of other things other than that C bastard. Everything crossed for you pal.

I've been dealing with a benign prostate for ten years. I've had a biopsy and four scans in that time. I have regular PSA blood tests. One reading came back at 26 once which was a shock. I had another test a week later and it was down to 7.8. It can fluctuate. I had a test recently which had risen to 9.9. They did another 6 weeks later which had risen again to 11.9. The consultant booked me in for a scan and a biopsy. I refused the biopsy as I told him if the scan was clear the biopsy wasn't needed. He reluctantly agreed. Thankfully the scan was clear. Another blood test showed my PSA had dropped slightly to 11.2. He now suspects it could be an infection so I'm waiting for two courses of antibiotics. Good luck, if it doesn't drop go for a scan first. They seem to.push biopsies quickly for some reason but a scan should be a first option.
