Prostate cancer

I've just been for a check at the doctors after noticing a lack of 'water pressure' this last few weeks. Turns out my prostate is enlarged (bad), but not misshapen (good). He has referred me for tests and I should hear back in the next fortnight, then should be seen within 4 weeks. The NHS site says that an enlarged prostate is most likely to be caused by hormonal changes as you get older (I'm 63), so I'm not overly concerned just yet.

i had my first appointment since having my prostate out in november.my psa is now undetectable which is good.they said the tumour had reached the bladder neck so it was lucky i had the test when i did.they also said its a 30% chance of coming back in the next 10 years which i must admit pissed on my bonfire a bit as i thought once the prostate was out as long as it was contained that was it.i will be having my psa checked every 4 months going forward.

have you not had a PSA test yet ?

So, had blood tests, including psa, and all fine, then the hospital Urology dept rang last week and asked me to attend for a consultation last Monday. This involved another examination, after which the doctor told me that I had a 0.06% likelihood of developing prostate cancer, so all good. He prescribed Tamsulosin Hydrochloride tablets to treat my enlarged prostate.

I probably would have kept putting it off if not for a mate having had similar symptoms 12 months back that resulted in him needing radiotherapy, he's now clear, but will have regular check ups.

Any changes in your waterworks, get it checked out.

That post is from page one but for anyone else looking in, I just wrote a nice piece above but this is from the . NHS website
Symptoms of prostate cancer can include:


1, needing to pee more frequently, often during the night
  • needing to rush to the toilet
  • difficulty in starting to pee (hesitancy)
  • straining or taking a long time while peeing
  • weak flow
  • feeling that your bladder has not emptied fully
  • blood in urine or blood in semen

Not me mine is colon cancer, but I do know a mate who had problems with his waterworks's a dribbling weak stream, had to get up at night more than once. So went to the doctor, blood test which was high for the prostrate, after examination, the prostrate was enlarged/swollen.
Went for a biopsy it came back normal so had a small operation to reduce the size of the prostrate. Not every blood test/examination mean you’ve got cancer it can be other things so don’t worry

I read that modern medicine is coming round to the idea that Prostate cancer is one of the most benign and might be best left alone because the cure can be worse than the disease.

I had the most aggressive type in 2015? No symptoms but found in the tiniest polyp after colonoscopy 4mm. Unfortunately because it looked benign it wasn’t marked.
So unable to find it again after subsequent colonoscopies. I ended up in Emergency AE last New Year’s Eve with a rupture on one side and a large grade four cancerous blockage on the other.

All last December I was sick couldn’t eat called the doctor out he diagnosed gastric flu. Six days later the ambulance.
Only telling my story not to frighten people but to say watch out for being put off if your told to try laxatives or change your diet, cancer is insidious the symptoms are the same as gastric flu or difficulty going to the bathroom. If they persist insist on more tests I was to laid back about it.

I’m only here because my daughter had enough of me feeling sick all the time and called the ambulance.

I’m waiting for a reversal of an ileostomy saw the doctor Thursday and it’s still possible first a colonoscopy to see if nothing looks suspicious.

Definitely not with respect Mr G , that’s not the case for those who get diagnosed , as myself has been twice gone through the mill with prostate cancer the threat of bone cancer looms after PC it gets that sort of publicity as it’s seen as a “ old man’s disease “ so why put them through uncomfortable treatment.I was 52 when got diagnosed my oncologist said I’d had it for at least two years. Hopefully I’ll be cured from this disease.
As always up the blues .
Keep fighting this horrid disease.
 
Meant to post an update on this sooner. Basically, my post-scan appointment on 29th January went pretty well. They think it’s unlikely that I’ve got it but can’t totally rule it out off the scan. The figures are below the threshold for doing a biopsy so they’re going to monitor it. They calculate it as PSA divided by weight of prostate (in grams) and if it’s 0.15 or above then they recommend a biopsy. My PSA was 4.6 and the weight of my prostate is 61 grams so it came out at about 0.075. I’ll have my PSA checked again in 6 months and if no real cause for concern then it will probably revert to 12 monthly checks after that.
