PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Are we now the official flat track bullies, love it against the piss weak teams, have no clue and get run ragged against the better teams
That’s what should happen, really. In sport, teams are better than others. Better teams will, more often than not, beat teams they’re better than.

So, when we face better teams than us, it’s likely we’ll get beat. As long as we beat the teams we’re better than, we’re doing a decent job. Until we have a better team, we should expect lower quality performances and fewer wins than when we did have a better team, previously.

To That’s Amore

When the 4th hit the net and were all soaking wet fuck off City

2 nil up in the game
In the shit pouring rain
Fuck off City

Went out to the loo
Then it’s suddenly 2-2
Fuck off city

Can’t believe what I saw
Not even a fucking draw
Fuck off city

Fuck off City

Shower breakfast boozer in that order
Then home for Chelsea:)

No sentiment for me.
Out-Ederson, Akanji, Stones,Walker,Rico,Gundogan,Kovacic,Bernardo, KDB, Phillips, Nunes, Grealish
Keep - Ake, Ortega, Dias, Gvardiol, Bobb ,Savio, Rodri, Doku, Haaland, Foden, O'reilly, Mcatee.
New- Kusanov, Reis, Marmoush

Need-Left back, Right back, centre half , 2 x defensive midfielders, 1 x attacking midfielder

Don't think this is going to be a quick process peeps.
I think Akanji could stay for me, he’s patently not completely fit so I’d give him a pass for now.

Agree with the rest.

How on earth did anyone expect a bunch of Dinner ladies to beat a football team. That kit is diabolical and obviously shouldn’t be worn again!! IMHO

Eccles, don't slag off the dinner ladies! My granddaughter really likes her dinner ladies at primary school. Out on a pitch, though, I too have my doubts.

Just to let you known Brugge haven’t lost for 18 games and that includes games against Juventus , Aston Villa , Celtic & Sporting Lisbon , three of those sides beat us -

Anyone who wants to get rid of the greatest manager in the game, after our first bad half-season in seven years, needs to give their head a wobble. He’s not immune from criticism, but be careful what you wish for. The idea that a new manager is going to come in and instantly resolve the many problems we face, is fanciful at best. I don’t think some realise just how good we’ve had it in recent years. The rebuild is under way but it’s going to require a fair bit of patience.
Don’t disagree Ric but the fact the powers that be have let the quality of the squad deteriorate for the previous three years is why we are now in the position we are. So many excellent players have been let go (could be here all day naming them) and they have either not been replaced or have been replaced with players that are nowhere near good enough.

The similarities are more relevant. He was someone the managed asked to play out of position. The manager thought he was the best option.

Who would be the better choice given what we have available? Unfortunately the squad is short of anyone in form or fit enough to play at right back. I presume Pep went to the next best available in his mind.
The issue is, when a player of Nunes' quality becomes your best option even in an emergency situation, you know City's squad is in a poor condition.

In the cold light of day, last night's performance was shocking. I'm struggling to recall the last time we put in the effort typified by PSG.

Paris did to us, what we did to Real in the CL semis in our treble winning season. What we're witnessing now has been slowly coming.

This is Pep’s biggest ever challenge, can he rebuild this team? I’ll be honest , i doubt it , we just won’t see another dominance like we have just witnessed , I’d take Enrique tomorrow as manager , fast , explosive , dynamic football , has to be our next manager. I just hope Pep isn’t staying here for sentimental reasons, let’s be honest here , this team is finished.
One might say "heavy metal"
There’s a former PL coach who isn't working in management at the moment and was renowned for this
I wonder if he'd be interested!

Surely Walker should have been RB tonight??

We are still paying his wages aren’t we???

He could have made a difference, if he hung back and defended deeper than usual??!!
Walker wants out. He's been dropped several times, a fan abused him & the gossip pages won't stop reporting the latest rant from his ex mistress. He needs a fresh start. He wants to leave & City are helping to facilitate this.

HOWEVER, there's STILL no concrete plan to furnish our squad with proper raiding right & left backs. It seems we're still going with a defence full of CB's. The squad rethink & rebuild is underway. We'll only know properly if Pep intends to persist with not having specialist FB's after the summer window closes.

To be honest, I'm tired of seeing us using CB's & midfielders in FB positions. At the point where Pep needed to deploy Bernardo at LB, is the point where the penny should've dropped that the wide areas of defence are as important an issue to be addressed as central defence.

As I loved the dinner ladies at all the schools I taught in I totally agree. (Especially the one who baked the best Manchester Tart in the world)

It is just not a kit I feel works for us! :-)

You’re literally obsessed with Walker. Get help mate.

Of course Pep should stay! How we forget that we are the reigning champions - No.1 from 192, and we have been in that position for six years in the last seven.

Time waits for nobody, naturally, but we were beaten by a team playing Pep's way - false nine, aggressive in the press. They were excellent and deserved the win. What they have is athleticism all over the pitch, and we could not deal with it. It happens. Most of us know where we are - we have a group of players, absolute legends of the club, who are no longer physically able to cope with multiple games per week. We may have been too loyal to a small group, but they have been required to play because we have, by choice, a small squad, and one that has been hit with the worst injury list in a decade. We are currently buying a group of young players who seem to have the athleticism that we have missed, but also will provide the opportunity to properly rest players who are vulnerable.

If we are not competitive next season, then we will think again, perhaps. But remember that every other team playing in this country, and in Europe, looks at us with admiration for our football and our business. It may be grudging admiration from some, but they all know just how good we have been, and how easily we may return to those levels.
Exactly, look at PSG’s team yesterday, all in their early to mid twenties, eager to put a mark on the competition. They will be a threat to whoever they get in the later rounds

We’re still in for more pain this season as I doubt the signings are going to push us any further in the short term

But next season our squad should look at lot younger and ready to take on these physical challenges that our older players can’t handle now

Marmoush 25
Haaland 24
Foden 24
Gvardiol 23
Bobb 22
Doku 22
Mcatee 22
Lewis 20
Savinho 20
Khusanov 20
Reis 19

The future looks great to me

There's no doubt that big mistakes have been made in terms of recruitment and squad planning, but I was just making the point that a new manager doesn't suddenly make those issues go away. Pep is the man to rebuild the team.

Our biggest problem is a combination of (1) missing the best player in the world (still somewhat underestimated by many fans and pundits, as he's a more influential player than any of our PL legends, including David, Kun and KDB) and (2) crowd favourites like Stones and Ake being sicknotes.

Had Rodri been available and had one from Stones and Ake been fit enough to play in most games, like Akanji, then the season would have been pretty normal. It's not simply that Stones and Ake are missing games, but that the other defenders are being overplayed and thus starting to pick up injuries too.
