As this a punk and new wave thread I would just like to know what people think of Idles?
They're the most punk sounding and issue lead band we've had for a while
I came on this thread to ask the exact same question...i love them, caught that show at Glastonbury last year....and just got tickets to see them in Manchester next year...assuming it goes ahead!

I've heard about 10 tracks, I like 5 or 6. I like their angst and raw sound but Idles being a 6th gen punk band I've heard most of the chords and sentiment before. Having said that they're a decent band.
I disagree about hearing the chords before...whilst they arent ground breaking, they are very contemporary.
Cant disagree on the point about sentiment...i mean, is that not the point?

And not fair to say they are a 6th generation punk band....by that token, nothing after 1977 can be called punk

Fair comments.

They are classed as punk and 6th generation punk. My mate is a promoter for up and coming punk bands from all over the world. Been to a few gigs he's put on and I can honestly say most sound similar to each other and are all mostly shite. There are a few exceptions though.

I remember this Costa Rican band playing in town a few years ago.

The Great Wilderness. Really good track I think.

Enjoyed that track but I wouldn't put it down as punk.
Indie for me.

Still sounds dangerous!

Saw them on a smaller stage at glastonbury 2017, they were great even without Jello
Said it before, they were one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Manchester Polly on 4th Oct 1980. I was at the front right in front of Jello and was almost crushed against scaffolding. Only 600 there but what a gig. They were supported by UK Decay. They weren't a bad band and i bought this single afterwards.
