Punk and New Wave thread.

Who remembers this?

Ha ha ! Just seen this. Saw the Freshies a number of times at a club on Oxford Road whose name escapes me. Saw Chris Sievey more often as Frank Sidebottom including once when he was supporting Jonathan Richman who, as an American was completely nonplussed by the whole thing.

Went to see Public Image's first concert at the Rainbow Theatre in London one Christmas eve and saw them a couple of months later in Leeds. Saw the Jam about 6 times not because I particularly liked them, but because my best mate was a big fan.

My personal favourites of that era were, and are, Wreckless Eric and John Otway. Growing old with them now but still go and see them occasionally.

I think Magazine were a great Mancunian punk band that stayed pretty much under the radar from most. They were definitely in the shadow of The Buzzcocks and Joy Division. Howard Devoto started with the Buzzcocks and and left to form Magazine, Pete Shelley replacing him in 77. This is was their biggest and most recognised track from the excellent debut album 'Real Life' which I listed at 17 in the recent top 20 albums thread.

@Stoned Rose. You took an interest in them on WAYLTN thread, so I'll put the 'Shot By Both Sides' here and the other 8 album tracks to follow. Enjoy: )

I think I know the club but the name escapes me. Never saw The Freshies and don't know much about them. Remember their Manc megastore track well though: )
