Punk and New Wave thread.

My son used to be in a punk band who supported quite a few of the oldies. Met more nice folk than awful ones. Said that Bob Geldoff and the singer out of Flock Of Seagulls (cannot remember his name just now) were complete arses. Lydon wanted £2.5k for them to support PIL However said that Pete Shelley, Wendy O'Williams, Beki Bondage, Wattie & Hazel O'Connor were all class and really supportive. The nicest person he met though was Barry from Eddy & The Hot Rods. A true gent who has been very helpful in progressing my sons career. He has stayed with us a few times and some of his stories involving John Lydon & Debbie Harry especially are quality.

Saw Eddy and the hot rods supporting slf a few weeks ago, very impressed with them

Sex pistols line up of Lyndon, Jones, cook and Matlock were a brilliant band, maclaren and vicious ruined them although made them more famous, cockney rejects, buzzcocks, sham 69, slaughter and the dogs all great bands, punk festival in Blackpool next weekend I think
Rebellion festival, some great bands. Punks not dead haha

Met Bob Geldof in dublin in 1988 when we were the for st Pat's v Hearts in eufa cup
He was good company and stoically put up with him trying to give him money for charity

I still see Wattie a lot despite his health problems he is still radge
I think he's had about 5 heart attacks now? They wasn't one of my favourite bands tbh. I think I last saw them at the former Dukinfield nightclub Drifters when Exploited fans trashed the place.

I keep saying I'll go to a rebellion festival but I never have. I'm not interested in modern punk, same chords, same thrashy angst but 40 years later, been there, done that.

A couple of mates put on up and coming punk bands at the Rising Sun in Mossley if anyone is interested (check website). Some are decent, some are utter shite though, but it's all about personal opinion I suppose.

Too many bands play Rebellion every year but it's still a really good atmosphere. Just doing the Saturday this time.

An old colleague of mine Nigel Crosthwaite used to play the Blackpool festival with his bands, Sick 56, the Pink Torpedoes and One Way System. He was a bright bloke but I saw a tweet by the Fylde Police that he had become a taxi driver and was caught over the legal limit for drinking and possession of cannabis, such a shame.
