I get the feeling the team selection today was weak, as I think it will be on the weekend, on the basis of trying to ensure we can pick our best team 3 times in a row against Spurs/Spurs/United next week.
Those 3 games will define our season, assuming we get a win against Palace (A big assumption - but their recent form is ordinary, and their home record is truly woeful this season). And I can't see Mahrez, Delph (unless desperate), Otamendi (Stones should be preferred imho), and even perhaps D Silva being in that best team. I did think KDB would play tonight though and then not playing Sunday - he looks the most in form of our midfielders for mine.
On Sunday, I think we will line up something like: Ederson, Danilo, Otamendi, Kompany/Stones, Delph/Mendy, Gundogan, KDB, Mahrez, Sane, D Silva, Jesus. Just have to get the job done, no matter how ugly, then let Liverpool get a bit slippery later on the same afternoon.
Then for Wednesday, Aguero of course to come in, KDB to stay in, B Silva if he is fit, Sterling, Fernandhino all to start, plus Laporte + Otamendi/Stones in central defence, and Walker + someone at Left Back (I'd prefer Danilo, unless KDB's bro is available).
It wasn't a good result tonight, but the tie is far from over. With Kane almost certainly out you would think, and we hopefully having a more fit Aguero, B Silva back, KDB to start, and hope Sane, I fancy us to do it pretty comfortably if we play anywhere near our best.
I don't get what is going on with Sane though - truly bizarre. Some of his best performances this season has been in CL games, yet we give him 5 minutes at the end. I really think if he and KDB came on at 60 minutes, there would have been a different result tonight,as Spurs were there for the taking.
