But if we had won 1-0 from that penalty everyone would have said he got it right and preserved KDB and Sane for Sunday!
It was always going to be a tougher game than people expected, we walk away 1-0 down and that is not the end of the tie whatsoever.

Bring on Palace Sunday.

Sorry but you don't preserve players in the CL at this stage.
If you are right it reinforces my point that maybe Pep doesn't think that we can win the CL this term and he views the league has more attainable.
I don't think we will win the CL under Pep.
Said it for a while now.

Delph was most certainly at fault, initially he gave Son too much room, secondly he thought the ball was going out of play, and when Son brought it back he did nothing to block the shot and I think he was half appealing too
Were you just skim reading posts looking for "Delph wasn't at fault" there? :)

I was clearly talking about Kane's injury.

I think Delph and Gundogan should have closed the angles down quicker and also Ederson didn't look set when the shot came, that split second he took to appeal for the goal kick(and Delph and Gundogan for that matter) could have helped to keep that shot out.

Gotta laugh at some people fretting.

We were robbed of Bernardo. Regardless of other absentees, we win that game tonight with him in place of Mahrez.

Very confident.
For £60m we're expecting Mahrez to take players on, go past them comfortably and deliver constant accurate crosses and passes. I think his confidence is shot. He occasionally rolls the defender, hits a cross that gets intercepted or hits one that rises by about three feet. I feel sorry for him.
To play in this City team you need tenacity and fight for the ball when you lose it. He doesn't seem to have those qualities.

Thought the ref was a bit of a homer for Spurs but what's new there, at this stage of the CL when City play? Wasn't a huge baring on the game tonight though to be fair but it was still annoying at points.

Rose fouls Sterling with his arms all over the place, Gundogan immediately after gets pulled up for use of his arm across the player. A minute later Fernandinho is grabbed and pushed back by the face(Rose again or Mora maybe not sure who it was) and the ref doesn't see it... they were trying to get a reaction from Dinho all night in my view, orders from Poch?
Yep, he spent the whole game trying to atone for the penalty that he was forced to give even though he didn’t want to. Sterling was the victim of constant niggly fouls that weren’t given yet anytime Nico or Laporte made even the slightest contact with their guys he couldn’t wait to blow his whistle

And also how was Poch allowed to continue a running dialogue with Delphy without the officials intervening.

What kind of one goal defeat would have been better and how would it changes the return leg?

A 2-1 defeat, a 3-2 defeat, a 10-9 defeat etc etc etc.

Basically any one goal defeat that doesn't leave us in the precarious position of requiring three goals in the event spurs score just one.

Pretty clear, keep it tight and stay in the tie whilst resting some key players.

Pen goes in he's a tactical genius, Delph makes an error and he'll never win the CL again.

Those are the extremes on BM lol
Pen didn't go in, we lost l, we didn't start with our strongest 11, so what we resting these key players for? Not a quarter final of a champions league game?

Season ticket holder in division 2 mate and if you think pep picked the best team tonight you are sorely mistaken
Same here pal.

Horses for courses. Kdb can’t play 90min twice in 3 days, mendy the same, Leroy’s been hit n miss all season, Bernardo must’ve got a knock at Wembley to be left out of the squad. Don’t see the problem myself

Half this forum boo the CL anthem anyway, hate UEFA, hate the competition, hate the ticket prices, hate the fact it's midweek and don't attend.

I'd take the domestic treble any day of the week personally!

They do need preserving! especially KDB.

Bring on Palace.

Still confident we can turn it around. Mahrez was terrible and Jesus can't stay on side which needs sorting sharpish.

Gundogan said in a German post match interview,
"AGAIN players were very nervous in a big match,
made many small mistakes,
were much too fearfull playing forward in midfield,
should have defended the conceded goal much better." (I hope the last part was self criticism).

I didn't understand the lineup, nor the substitutions.
The build-up play by our 4 defenders today was pisspoor.

Pep's desciption of "controlling the game" must be a wind-up.

No idea why Gundogan didn't take the penalty.
Jesus surely will learn how to play onside one day.

I'm not too optimistic, losing 1-0 is very dangerous.
I don't buy the theory that this defeat was factored in to win the tie next week.

The attitude was exactly the opposite to what I expected.
I will be prepared next time.

Btw, PEP really said post match,
losing 1-0 is better than 0-0, as you exactly know what you have to do next match :-/
@mosssideblue You were spot on pre match :)

Mendy has played fuck all, all.season, sane should start and as.for mahrez a 1 legged man should start over him, he is dog shit

Hindsight is a wonderful football manager. We should offer her a job when Pep goes.

As soon as I saw the two lazy bastards in the team Gundogan and Mahrez in the team I stuck a ton on Spurs to win at 16/5. I fucking robbed the Bookies. We were shit.
We have lost 6 games this season, 2 in Champions League and 4 in League, Gundogan has started in 5 of those games

Just came back from the game, still baffled by both the selection and approach to this game. And those two subs in 89'. Still don't get it! We just tried to pass ball around and to keep them at arms length, like it is another Cardiff or Brighton game. Or Madrid in semis a few years ago. Our season might be defined by the two games and two missed penalties. I would always discard CL for another PL title, but it was just a pathetic performance tonight, trying to clock 90 minutes against a team who were obviously prepared to play their game of the season.

Deep breath, relax and remember its 1 - 0 at half time with the second half to be played at home. We weren't at our dynamic best but we're far from out of this tie and I expect a different team/performance in the home leg. One other positive, shirt's now in the washing basket for the first time since 29th Jan and on Sunday I will smell like a rose!
