Bit of a myth really that Ferguson is the only manager to do this. He only has to sell players who are on the decline because they had more money than most to fight off approaches for there good players, so when they were on a downwards slope, he could sell, and didn't need to before. But look when Real Madrid came knocking with massive fees for Ronaldo and a good fee for Beckham, wind they, especially ronaldo, certainly had a few years left in them, and he let tevez go.
Yet clubs who have less money have to sell they're bigger names to the clubs higher up the league, so can't really hold on to them till they really want to.
On this side lf things, he's no different to any other manager really, just had the money and position to retain most of his player any way, instead of being force to sell by the board.
