Question for Tolmie

I just think he is letting too many outside factors derail his and our focus.

If Mourinho wants the job, I would like to see him get it. But it's been that way for me since we became a relevant player in world football

I want the best, and he's the best IMO.

What are the 'outside factors' you mention?

Is it that the club are getting fed up of him exiling expensive and potentially important players on a whim without even attempting to integrate them into the squad ala Adebayor, Bellamy, Bridge, Tevez etc? Mancini seems to get rid of one player then move on to ostracising another. This would be impossible at any other club because they wouldn't be able to afford it.

On the Tevez thing, I said at the time and I will say again, IMO Mancini is half to blame for this situation. Tevez did NOT refuse to play like Mancini said he did, he refused to warm up for a SECOND time because he felt he was ready to go straight onto the pitch against Bayern. I honestly believe that night in Munich Mancini had got everything wrong and when we were being beat he was stressed and panicking and so in the heat of the moment, misunderstood what Tevez had said. Instead of being measured and calming down, he went all emotional to the media accusing Tevez of going on strike. Subsequently when this proved to be FALSE, surely the club hierarchy, whilst trying to get rid of Tevez, must have lost some trust and respect for Mancini.

Am I thinking along the right lines here? Are there any other factors like disputes with certain members of the Board we don't know about?

Football does that you see, if you actually tried to appreciate how the game works.

They say a week is a long time in football, yet you flag up a posting going back over a month.

Do feel free to share when you were at the briefing with mancini and his aims for this window?

Also feel free to flag up the subsequent posts of mine which contradicted and stated Tevez was still a hindrance to the entire process.

Concentrate on this fetish for 80s shorts, rather than coming to a gunfight with a knife.

Awaits your undoubted latest accusatory response, about as pertinent as a used tampon floating down the Ganges.

It was a lighthearted dig. Get over yourself ffs. Methinks you protest too much.

Methinks you aim digs at every opportunity, such is the regularity, hard to decipher these days between light-heartedness and vindictiveness.

I take back the previous invective.

Tolmie as someone who reads your narrative contributions with interest I'd be interested to see if you can, with discretion, throw a little more light on "outside factors."

RM did look particularly ill at ease post Everton?

I do agree that JM is a fantastic manager, he could well win la Liga and the Champs League with a team that in truth are not at the same level as their major rivals, and yet, they produce.

He does appear to be a bit of a butterfly and you have to wonder how that sits with the long term "dynasty" our owners are trying to build, which, presumably, would be best served by continuity, or maybe not.

JM also seems to be first team centric and if that is the case how is that seen set alongside the huge investment which is currently being made to developing our resources in house by investing in youth for the future a la Barca?

As in previous seasons, folly to second-guess what our owners want, when and how.

Football has always been about timing. Bobby is our manager because of this. He's not a stupid man, he is very clever in the ways of football politics.

He will have a fair mind what could be over the hill, but he also knew that last season before the FA Cup semi final, and studied the landscape, accordingly.

It is only my opinion, but wherever Mourinho may next up, it will be for a good while longer than we have previously seen in his career.

-- Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:41 am --

The pressure is there for all to see, the frustrations of things not going his or our way.

You are way off the mark to think our owners do not respect Bobby, or that Tevez has the moral high ground.

I feel your pain, I do!

My therapist does tell me to do more for my fellow man.

How about an hour a day?

Can take you to feed the ducks, your shout.

Don't have the audacity to talk about grace when you are spoiling for a fight and downright plainly abusive.

I will exit whence I came, see you at the next anger management session.

I think you have spelt your username wrongly, surely it should be, Cock1970.

Theres only 1 way to stop these things getting out of hand ever again

Stop or block or delete the cryptic clue kidder, its a nonsense to me anyway but as an active member on BM I feel obliged to open particular threads, but at times I wonder why I bothered.

If all these "cryptic music video clues" were for our latest signing, then I think you would have had to be Einstein to understand what the fuck was going on,but it is situations like this that rile individuals like Corky and me to an extent I suppose

It's like come on lad cut to the fucking chase will ya !!

Anyway thankfully it should die down now till about May/June when the you tube specialist man kicks in again..............

For those who ain`t got the time of day for Tolmie and his cryptic clues and messages ... just place him on your foe list.
That way,the rest of us can continue enjoying what we are offered by Tolm and we don`t have to read the crap from the rest of you.

Spot on. As an ordinary poster and especially as a mod, it astounds me that people go into a thread they clearly find not to their liking and trash it/the people who are interested in it instead of just not reading it in the first place.

I think a lot of the time people feel let down and have to express their frustrations.

I think to do it within reason is ok.

unrealistic. You can still be a top team and win trophies quite routinely with many managers See: Every large club aside from Arsenal and United.

Ferguson and to an extent Wenger are anomalies and will never be repeated as the world is too cut-throat.

The fear is if they want rid of Mancini and Mourinho either a. won't come with new CEO or b. holds out for the rags, who is left.

Ancelotti would have been my first choice, but we'll probably only be left with the fat spanish waiter.

You can win thing with a turnover in managers but it does stifle long term planning. If you feel the need to win the league every season you are invariably going to stick with tried and trusted players and keep experimentation to a minimum. Chelsea have found this and now feel themselves obliged to rethink the short term approach of one season with no trophy = sacked.

With FFP long term planning is even more important as chucking money at any problem is not viable so we do need to allow managers space to breathe as it were. Demanding that the manager (who ever it is) that we win the league every season or else is folly. Mancini will stay or go as long as ADUG believe he is the right man in charge to usher in short term success or at the very least ensure we are challenging for the major trophies and is also in tune with the long term aims of growing the club organically through the youth system. Equally we all must be hoping that ADUG have a blueprint in mind and personnel identified or in place that will ensure there is a flow of top quality talent into the first team.

We also have to try and expand our horizons when it comes to coaches/managers as currently it seems to be limited to 'foreign coaches that have worked in England and we have heard of' whereas in reality the pool of top coaches is a lot wider than that. In fairness to ADUG they did appoint Mancini (not one of the usual suspects at the time) who has proven to be an excellent choice at this stage in our development so their ability to look for what is required and appoint the right man has so far been very good. The fact that since their arrival in 2008 they have only made one managerial appointment also indicates they do not have a short term outlook. In fact everything they have done so far all point to a long term outlook but in the meantime we exist in a media and forum driven world where Mancini is always 'two poor games from the sack' irrespective of how true that is in reality.

The other point is our footballing philosophy. I want City to have a discernible style that is attractive to watch and appealing to a world wide audience and this season we have definitely got that in our locker. We need to keep nurturing that or refining it and making it even better as well as making it effective in terms of winning trophies. Doing all this is a big ask and will not happen overnight or in one season. We need our management team to deliver that or a management team that can build on the foundations Mancini has put down. I don't really care how it happens as long as it does.
