I think Sterling isn't a player that can improve us significantly.

He has pace but not a great deal else. Similar player to Walcott, who has not greatly progressed over the last 3-4 seasons .

£ 55 million would be wasted buying Sterling simply to add pace to our team.

That's the one. The one who was desperate to leave to Arsenal. We forced him to stay and he ended up having a decent season. Just won player of the year, while scoring/assisting over 40 goals in the process.
So he's at Barcelona now then, you didn't manage to keep him.He also plays champions league now !

That wasn't my point. My point was that it is perfectly possible for a player who wants out to have a fantastic season when forced to stay. Alonso is another example for us in 2008/2009. Gerrard when he wanted to move to Chelsea is another.

Barney, can you remind us of how Slippy G was "forced to stay".

I think Sterlling is exactly what we need. We are crying out for pace in the final 3rd. Aguero is the only player in our team who even attempts to break an offside trap. Every game we have played this season we have got to the opposition box and passed it side to side and got knowhere. We need someone who will run beyond the striker and stretch oppsition midfielders and defenders. Navas has pace but is far to rigid. Sterling has caused us probelms when weve played Liverpool due to his speed but also his timing of runs. Last season he was wrongly flagged offside against us which would have made it 0-2 to them. That was all down to his timing of the run.
I honestly think Sterling could be brilliant for us and like it or not speed is a huge factor in the game and it is somenthing we dont have enough of.

Silly to judge him too much on this season with the dippers struggling to emulate last seasons quick flowing football and without Suarez in the side gives him nothing to feed off or play with.

Imagine him on last seasons form, fast counter attacking football with Agueros movement would give us a nice outlet and suit our style, HG is a bonus.

Are we still balls deep for him danamy?

Trying and getting are two different things, we're currently still at the former

He has much more to him than pace.
