Chelsea according to Mail/ mirror lost interest when the fee topped £40million and if we balls this up I can see them nipping in personally I feel the deal we pulled off for Delph was at least £5 million less due to his realise clause might have thought we would have secured Sterling more comfortably

I think arsenal and Chelsea will both come in for sterling next summer were we not to close the deal, as the price would come down with a year to go on his contract. Sterling wouldnt be happy with us for not closing the deal this summer, so reckon he would pick one of those sides over us in that scenario. To me we either get him in this window or we miss out. WHat I would say is surely Txiki wouldnt be able to survive another window without landing a world class player, even with the Pep connection

Yep, I believe this scenario would happen too, Sterling would go elsewhere next year as we haggled over the price ( not saying those in charge are wrong to do so, they're right as he's not worth £50 mil ATM)

I agree with what a lot of people have said both sides. People who think we should front the money and people who think we shouldn't. Has anyone stopped to consider on our targets this summer we may have to pay over what we want? We may have to pay more in agents fees than we should or what we value players at?

It's the progression, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Lescott, Milner etc we paid more than what these players were worth at the time and many more during that period. Why did we do that? To get to that next level. We had to overpay to get the players required to push us up the ladder. It worked and we are one more push away from being an outfit in Europe with our targets this summer. We overpay now for these players which puts City on the map and in a few years down the line we will be at the top table and not needing to negotiate like this or clubs/agents thinking they can rip us off. That's my opinion anyway and if we want to be at this level quick then anything and everything must be done.
not having a go here Tom because that's a well thought out and considered post
we did overpay to get into the CL and to start winning trophies, then along came our bestest buddie Mr Platini with his new regulations that meant we now have to stick within a budget
our budget may be massive, but it's still a budget, and we have to bring home all the bacon without borrowing the money from Wonga
