I think the idea that "we conceded therefore defenders" or "we don't score enough therefore attackers" is a pretty outdated way of looking at the game

Uhmm If a team attacks more they leave gaps and concede more. Not sure how much simpler you want it. Chelsea score less because they defend more. We score more because we defend less. Our balance wasn't the best last season and hence we din't win the league.
