don't you find it depressing that a quality newspaper like the Manchester Guardian has so few standards these days as to encourage rag trolls to bait scousers?

The problem is these days all football sections, whether the Guardian, Times, Telegraph, they are all prone to trolling. I'm pretty sure that in those interviews Ric did with Dan Taylor he pretty much admitted that there was a click bait culture with regards sports/football journalism.

What's disappointing is just how quick the editors to pretty much run with anything, as evidenced by that Jackson piece, even when it is completely detached from reality.

I'm very unsure about Sterling. He's inconsistent. That Palace game a few weeks ago, everything he did in that second half was just crap; running the ball out of play, taking too many touches and losing it, being nowhere defensively...he looked a poor player but then there is potential there and there could be the fact his heart wasn't in it at Liverpool (which doesn't particularly shine well on his personality if he'll let that ruin his game).

But he's very overrated imo.

I'd love for the news to come out that we were in for Reus instead. He's just signed a new deal for Dortmund, which usually means a player is up for sale (just at a slightly higher price than he would have been before signing a new deal). Proven at all levels, consistent, already high quality yet still only 26.

I dont think he wants to leave Dortmund. I think he's also had bad luck with injuries recently. And sterling is homegrown. I agree that Results is a far better player though.

It's difficult to know whether Sterling is overrated or underrated, mainly because we only have two seasons of football to go on - one in which he was exceptional for an 18/19 year old, and one in which he was very good for a 19/20 year old. One thing I would say though is that he is streets ahead of where Reus for example was at 18/19 years old in terms of his quality and his experience.

Personally I think it'll be an inspired signing and in years to come we'll look back at it as a bargain no matter what the price, much like Kun/Silva/Toure etc.

People need to understand that Raheem Sterling is 20.
Thats 20 years old.
Lets look at other top players when they were 19/20 years old
Messi - 26 games - 14 goals
C.Ronaldo - 33 games - 5 goals
Bale - 16 games - 0 goals
Reus - 17 games - 1 goal

Sterling
18/19 - 33 games - 9 goals
19/20 - 33 games - 7 goals
The only player with better goal stats at that age was Messi in a Barca team.
Sterling plays in a team full of losers fighting for 6th place...
Im not saying he is going to be Messi/ Ronaldo standard. My point being that he is only young and can only improve.
In the coming years if he signed for us he will be physically stronger, more experienced and playing with better players.
I think he would be a fantastic signing.

The news from last night that we official contact about Sterling excites me. Just throw that 40m bid or a bit less and he's ours. 25m from rags in laughable and arsenal ain't spending anything over 10m on anyone ever.. Good times!

Oh god these stats are impressive. And add that he has played with some awful players this season too...
