Put it this way, if we don't buy any English starters, we'll forever be buying the likes of Sinclair and Rodwell to replace the previous list of homegrown squad players that were never good enough but we had to buy anyway. It might actually save us money in the long run. If we could get in Sterling, Bale and Schneiderlin (not necessarily all in one transfer window), that would give us 4 homegrown starters every game and every one of them would be improving the first team. And maybe we'd overpay by £20m, but that's £20m that we wouldn't then have to spend on sub-par homegrown players to replace the likes of Milner and Lampard.

Work with a Liverpool fan and he doesn't rate him what so ever, he is correct in saying he has not progressed as a player and reckons Liverpool should sell, if we buy for 50 million then I will not here the last of it...20 mill max for me but hope we leave well alone...

I think it's because he's lost some of that charm of being a young talent he had last year. This season's been very inconsistent for him and I think he's shown he's not really a great finisher either (kind of like Navas).

Prices are inflating hugely so you'd be fooling yourself to think £20m is realistic. He's a young highly rated English player so £50m is realistic. £20m gets you very little these days. Personally I think he's good but I don't think he's a match winner on his own. For £50m that's what we need. Pogba and Bale are much better options and can win games themselves - I still think Sterling was flattered by Sturridge and Suarez around him.

You say that but when Sturridge got injured at the start of the season Sterling was carrying that Liverpool side, he was their most dangerous player trying to win games for his team.

Rodgers has had him playing AM, CF and now wing back in recent weeks, he may be a poor finisher but I think he is quite an intelligent player with plenty of room to improve.

7 goals and 8 assists isn't bad for a 20 year old.

It would be the equivalent of when we flogged Shaun Wright Phillips to Chelsea for £21M. Hyped up by the media at the time and ended up being a flop. Still at least the £21M at the time saved our club.

He is not the best finisher, but he has 7 goals this season. I wish Navas had 7 goals (Navas has 1 goal). And Sterling also has 8 assists this season - more than Silva, Nasri, Navas and Milner. Not bad for an inconsistent 20-year-old! Here's my view: I'd happily have a player who makes mistakes if he leaves a regular impact on games. De Bruyne is the same, he loses the ball a fair bit but if he can bring 25 assists and 14 goals to City, I don't care because I'd rather have players who aren't perfectly precise with 90% pass accuracy but have a tangible effect on games than too many neat and tidy players who play it safe.
