And to be fair I remember some of their coaches outside the Kippax getting smashed to fuck after we got relegated under Ball. I can remember to this day them sat on their coaches laughing through the windows and singing "going down" and then the sudden change of expression on their faces when they realised that City fans surprisingly weren't really in the mood for their hilarious scouse wit ™.
Yes, and I've still got the scar on my hand from when our coach was bricked in bomb alley, sorry, the East Lancs Road, after a game in Dipperland in the early 70s. It's nothing new, is it?

Its not as though he is 16, players do not improve considerably once they hit 20.

I have read some shite on this forum but this really takes the pudding.

If £40m up front would get the deal done then I would hope it wouldn't be a week between bids again.

Surely after the first bid there would have been discussions regarding add ons and such and the club would have known Liverpool's stance regarding additional money which may never materialize.
I'd be amazed if 40m up front didn't get him. You'd think it would suit everyone. But then they are absolute tossers so you just never know.

To all those who want to quote stats and comment on what he will be worth 5 years from now. If it was your money would you want to spend today what a player might be worth in 5 years time? We can all quote Messi and others but the list of those who got no better is far longer.

Let me spin the question.

Do you believe that the most cost effective strategy for your money is to buy things now rather than investing it?

I reckon you'll goto 50m Liverpool haven't got anything to lose, it's the same as the Suarez situation when we bid for him. He played another year and went for more. Sterling will still probably be worth 40m next year and if he improves maybe more. The problem you have is the amount of home grown players around that will be even decent squad players are pretty low. Who do you get if you can't get Sterling/Wilshere? Kane would cost about 50m. Barkley who's looking not so good at the moment? Is Schneiderlin homegrown, I'm not sure. Stones would be a good signing. James McCarthy is a pretty good homegrown player. Austin looks to be going to Chelsea.

It shows what a good buy Fabregas was for 25million when you think about it (he's homegrown)

Liverpool have to be seem to be doing everything they can to resist selling him.

If or when it goes through it will the latest indication that liverpool are a spent force amongst the English elite, a selling club that not only cannot keep their stars, but also sells to their 'rivals'. The Suarez deal was different due to his dicipline problems and the fact he went abroad, the sale of Sterling to City sends a negative message out.
It might even sink into minds of their deluded fans who will tell you all about their 'istory.
Your assessment of Liverpool at present is bang on, but let's not forget who we are, the state we were in not so long ago, and how we got out of it. Liverpool history is not what they won, but that they helped stop U know who from winning the title for about 20 years. Those of us who were around at the time were damn grateful SOMEBODY was doing that. They do what they have to do now, as we once did. I doubt their fans are in any real doubt about their predicament, but they are hardly going to admit it.

Am I the only one not arsed if he comes?

He's a reasonably decent player with lots of potential, but he's also a bit of a bellend that vanishes in big matches ( according to my Liverpool fan mates ). He's certainly not worth 50m!.
