everyone's talking about different values then and now but that is likely not the case is it? It's quality value more like it.

The Silva and Reus of today, who can be key players for a team to reach a CL final, are the £50 mil players of today's market.

Sterling is not at that level, yet.Maybe a £40mil bracket player like Zaba or imo Willian.

maybe in 3-4 years time he can go beyond that value bracket to command the future crazy market value of £200 mil who knows.

But at this moment I feel valuing him at £50mil is putting his quality equal to that of the £50-60 mil players of today, which I'm certain he is not yet reached.

at the end of the day though it's not my money. £50 m with premium inclusive might be justified if it's going to positively impact on Silva Aguero Bony etc,

if he does sign, I'll wait for the obligatory video interview to see if I'll grow a liking but people will expect a lot from a £50 mil player.

Such nonsense in this thread and all the arguing about whether he is worth it. It is irrelevant we live in a capitalist world and the market determines his price not a blue moon committee.

The premium for homegrown is very rational if we signed Reus it could mean no de Bruyn if we sign sterling we can sign Both.

What we pay for him is what our owners think he is worth and that will depend on whether they prioritise winning matches, winning leagues and trophies or whether they prioritise getting a good Bargain.

This thread kills me, so many blues care more about £s than points they care more about bargains than the balance of the team and squad. What has happened that has made even fans care more about the business than the team.

Me.... I want to start the season well and get ahead of Chelsea , I want a decent home grown quota so we have a strong squad to play in 4 comps and I couldn't give a rats about penny pinching, pathetic face saving or whether Raheem costs 25m or 45m

I'd rather spend the money on the likes of Ward-Prowse, Scneiderlin, Clyne, Roberts and such. Sterling seems like a petulant kid who misses more than he scores and who I personally don't think "fits" with the ethos we are trying to engender here. Is he Silva? Aguero?

He is a $20-25M home grown prospect who wants OUT of Liverpool. I say we stop offering stupid money and let him burn his bridges there. Rodgers will be gone soon and Sterling will be one of the few things they can sell to rebuild AGAIN! 12 mos from now he MIGHT be worth a few quid, but he might also have plummeted in value!

In short, exciting prospect who has shown a level of immaturity to make me wary, so not my cup of tea at the prices being floated.

I'm glad you're not in charge of transfers then. Sure fire way to take us backwards. Not one of those players would improve the team.

Yeah, spending £40+M on Sterling is the missing link! NOT!

We need solid players to fill out the squad and one or two world class players who are ACTUALLY world class, not bang average England "stars" for £50M! I'd take your hand off for Ward-Prowse/Scneiderlin/Clyne for £50M vs Sterling! YCMTSU!

Sterling has so much promise.. and yes we are going to pay for it.. I feel like if we brought the players you suggested it would feel like back up plans and look where that got us with Garcia, Rodwell, Sinclair.. we went backwards fast. Please don't promote that kind of transfer.. we pay what we have to and then we achieve our goal, that is the way forward. We aren't trading shares or commodities mate.

I'm not saying we don't need world class additions to the first team squad, I'm saying that £50M for Sterling, just because he is English, is far better spent on a couple or three 25 man squad players....who are ALSO young England internationals with bright futures.

Sterling is like Barclay....bang average on the "top European" front, but talked about like the Messiah purely because they are promoted English media darlings. If Sterling was a £20M talent, no doubt he'd be worth a punt. But, at £50M? Stupid money for a petulant kid with a manipulative, mouthy agent. Yeah, let's break the bank for that!!

Oh, and we won the league and a cup with those players that took us backwards, didn't we?!
