I'd rather spend the money on the likes of Ward-Prowse, Scneiderlin, Clyne, Roberts and such. Sterling seems like a petulant kid who misses more than he scores and who I personally don't think "fits" with the ethos we are trying to engender here. Is he Silva? Aguero?

He is a $20-25M home grown prospect who wants OUT of Liverpool. I say we stop offering stupid money and let him burn his bridges there. Rodgers will be gone soon and Sterling will be one of the few things they can sell to rebuild AGAIN! 12 mos from now he MIGHT be worth a few quid, but he might also have plummeted in value!

In short, exciting prospect who has shown a level of immaturity to make me wary, so not my cup of tea at the prices being floated.
There is no way he is a £20-25m player, he's worth much more. Like it or not them lot signing Luke Shaw for £32m inflated the English market.

For 50 million you could get two equally decent youngsters...ward-prowse for starters.

Since when is ward-prowse on the same level as sterling? The kid has some promise but to suggest he is on the same level as sterling who has played over a hundred games for A top 7 club is ridiculous.

He wouldn't get a sniff at a starting place in this team compared to sterling who would be automatic choice on the right.

And although I do rate scheiderlin I don't think raiding Southampton for 3 of their "stars" is going to take the club to the next level, I'll Liverpool to do that.

If you compare him to other players, I don't think £40m seems too ridiculous. We paid £26m for James Milner, and it worked out well, but he was never going to develop into a world class player. Same with Lescott. Now we've got a player who's already one of the most dangerous wingers in the league who has the potential to become world class (how often can you say that about a young English player?) and I think if it's worth breaking the English transfer record for anyone, it's him. Not only does he have the potential to become world class, he has the potential to become a world class creative player, which is something you haven't been able to say about any English youngster since Wayne Rooney (i.e. the last time the transfer record was broken for such a young player).

You can tell Liverpool really like the attention. Normally the negotiation process takes place out of the media's direct eye. In this case they decide to flaunt every bit of information out the minute they receive it. Talk about classless.

I'm not saying we don't need world class additions to the first team squad, I'm saying that £50M for Sterling, just because he is English, is far better spent on a couple or three 25 man squad players....who are ALSO young England internationals with bright futures.

Sterling is like Barclay....bang average on the "top European" front, but talked about like the Messiah purely because they are promoted English media darlings. If Sterling was a £20M talent, no doubt he'd be worth a punt. But, at £50M? Stupid money for a petulant kid with a manipulative, mouthy agent. Yeah, let's break the bank for that!!

Oh, and we won the league and a cup with those players that took us backwards, didn't we?!

We should get our top 3 targets and pay the money. We have shopped from the b list too often in the last 3 years - Garcia, Rodwell and Jovetic. We don't need squad players we need players who will improve the starting 11. Time for us to make a statement and put the core of a great squad in place.

Agreed and I am sure we will.
