This one is the strangest for me.
I have no doubt whatsoever that Sterling is coming to us. Out of the 3 big targets lined up, he is the most certain I believe.
I also fully support the club being prudent and looking to ensure we get the player at the right price and don't allow clubs to inflate the market simply because we have cash (or the perception that we have loads of cash as per the pre-FFP discourse).
However, we are (in my opinion) going to end up paying 50 million or as very close to that figure taking into account the smaller details. I thus see no genuine reason why this transfer is taking this long to complete. We made two formal bids. We likely knew Liverpool's valuation prior. We will certainly have been told by Liverpool and his agent that this is a done deal subject to a specific fee. We are obviously willing to pay this fee otherwise we would not have entered negotiations for such a high profile young player.
I suspect this deal will be done within the next 10 days - and ultimately that is all that matters. He is (in my opinion) worth 50 million in the current market. He is the best young talent in Europe. He has carried a huge football club on his back for 12 months post-Suarez / Sturridge and needs a fresh challenge after a mental and physical burn out towards the end of last season. His potential is phenomenal. He cut through our defence so easily during the title winning season when they pushed us very close. And his composure to finish showed maturity and emotional intelligence of a 28 year old world class player. I think he will be a huge success at city.
I just fail to see the logic in the announcement that we have agreed a 50 mil fee or a fee undisclosed but believed to be very close to that figure when we could have sealed this deal in a shaper more robust fashion. Again, just my opinion.
