With Sterling, unlike many other footballers, he can be terrible in everything he does outside three or four strikes of the ball all game, and he can come out at the end of a game with great stats that make people think he’s played well and can add to a good win.

Then when he’s good he can be excellent and exciting to watch.

A lot of other footballers can be good in everything they do all game outside the goals and assists - better first touch, better technique - but have far fewer goals and assists over the season than Raheem.

That makes him a very important player for us, and will be good to keep hold of. We could sign someone (and have!) who has all that technique and little end product.

Mixed feelings about this one.

He's played better the last 2 months, no doubt, but should his form over the last year and half or so prior to that be just completely forgotten about? Why not bring in some new blood and keep players on their toes? I'm not saying I'm completely against it. Raz seems like a good guy and teammate who keeps his head down and is well liked. Though I think you can argue there's benefits to the squad by bringing in new players of a similar profile who'd be on a 1/3rd of his wages.. i.e Nkunku, Raphinia, Coman off the top of my head. Interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

Nkunku? Raphinha??? Coman
the hospital?? Read what especially the last one has been demanding lol and you'll see.

Excellent news, he's ours and he's top of the league! Hopefully the extension is announced soon

Coman is certainly injured a lot but when he's fit, he's fantastic. Was just giving some names off the top of my head.

Raphinha and Nkunku are fantastic players. The former is unlikely due to his contract but the latter I think is potentially a great replacement. I'm as skeptical as anyone of buying from the bundesliga but his underlying numbers are seriously impressive and passes the eye test when I do watch Leipzig.

Would ease our contract situation somewhat. Still have Jesus, Mahrez and Gundogan going into their final year next season I believe.

You could have a long list mate but neither of them are good replacements, how they are performing in their respective sides is also irrelevant, because if they move here all of that starts from 0. Not only will we be in a position where we lose experience, quality and a player Pep can rely on, but taking chances on a replacement is an even bigger gamble. This is why, you have to keep your senior and experienced players around, as they know the club, the fans and the manager. For someone to fill those shoes is a massive step and cannot be undermined, look at Ferran, cowarded his way out of here in just 18 months because of the sheer thought of competition

My thoughts are that you haven't seen much of Raphinha or Coman if you believe they would be an adequate replacement for the second-highest City goalscorer of the 21st Century.

For every successful Bundesliga import we see (Sané, Aubameyang, Gundogan and even the first two were only for a few years) there are countless who look amazing in Germany, come here and we quickly discover they're not up to it against PL defenders (Haller, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan, Sancho, Joelinton, Werner, arguably Havertz etc.)

Sterling is a proven Premier League goalscorer, one of the best of the last decade, and it's staggering how much we undervalue that as a fanbase.

I am surprised at the news. Based on the last 18 months he does not deserve a new contract. However, he has shown glimpses of his old self recently. A mentally right sterling is an asset. It always means we have more funds in the pot to pay Haaland;)

Financially the club are covered so it’s a win win. Hope it works out and the issue with pep/city is resolved. On his day, raz is unplayable. Let’s hope for many more over the remainder of the season.
