Plymouth is like 3 times the size of Wakefield, my question is whats the largest town without having ever had team in the football league, that might well be Wakefield....

No, they haven't. Worth checking what Plymouth's population is today as a comparison.

Plymouth's population at the last census was 243,795. Stockport's was 136,082.
