Rangers Thread - 2023/24

Zenit fans fighting themselves doesn’t count

You would be wasting your breath

It was a shit show from start to finish.

It’s no coincidence your City has not held a final since

200,000 Rangers supporters in Seville up against the Spanish police and not one single arrest
You need to remember, you're a guest on a City fans forum. Slagging off our city is not a wise move. If you want to do that, go to a Rangers forum and do it. You'll find plenty of like minded souls on there. No one minds you waving the flag for your team; we all do that. But please; try to remember that you're on a forum where (probably) over 90% of posters live in, or were brought up in, Manchester. We see it as home and love it, warts and all. I wouldn't dream of going on a Rangers (or Celtic) forum and start rubbishing the city.

So one fifth of a million Rangers supporters all went to Seville at the same time? But their stadium only holds 40K or so. How did they all travel and where did they all stay?

;)

Come on you have to admit it was a disgraceful night associated with Rangers no matter how many travelled down.
I had mates who were staying in Blackpool and the train journey to Piccadilly was enough for them.
The moment they stepped out of the station they about turned and went back to Blackpool.
I am not absolving the idiots who were fighting with the police. Anybody wrecking a phone box is just an arsehole

I arrived about midday with my ex. I would have turned round and gone home if I could as it was a shambles. Nowhere to eat. Nowhere to get a drink!! From arriving until after match I had 7 drinks and a fucking McDonalds!!

As was said above this wasn’t Rangers travelling support. There were bus loads who went down who had little or nothing to do with Rangers

The City couldn’t cope. It’s really that simple. No city maybe with the exception of London could have coped. The Mayor has to take a large portion of the blame for that idiotic press release. While Rangers, Scottish politicians and our police advising against travel.

If you know the M6 the tailback started around Southwaite services. Manchester was already overcrowded!! I was supposed to be collecting my ticket there but unfortunately that fell through. I should have turned back then

I was lucky. I got to watch the game in a pub in the printworks. Tens of thousands never even got to see the game!!

I’m not blinded to our supports behaviour. Only on Saturday I had a go at their songbook. If they are out of order I’ll call them out. If the 1980s/ 90s Rangers support had been in that situation it would have been carnage

From Albuferia and all along the south coast of Spain

In his mind
Rangers in Seville: No arrests as Gers fans impress Spanish police with their good behaviour. Police have confirmed that no Rangers supporters were arrested in Seville after estimating that 100,000 were making their way to the Andalusian capital.

That’s 100,000 in Seville itself and tens of thousands more in surrounding areas from Albuferia , Cadiz and all along Spanish coast

Kind of numbers big clubs can take to these games. Celtic took similar numbers to Seville in 2003

Doesn’t surprise me you had no idea how big a club we are neither did your council

I’m not rubbishing the city. I’ve had many great times in Manchester. I’ll be down a few times this season as well. Actually one of my favourite cities in the UK. OK I’m not so keen on the traffic but I’m sure I’m not alone in that!

No city could have coped with the numbers that travelled.

I am not sure you’re really in touch with where Old Firm fans see themselves regarding Champions League.

I don’t know any who want Last 16 Champions League. We want the group stages for the millions that come with it and at a push try and get 3rd in group and fall into Europa League.

I think you are underestimating the size of the two Turkish clubs.
We would want last 16 if we thought we had a hope. So we don’t.

I've said my piece, and I stand over it. There are plenty on here who have strong views on what happened that night, and where the blame lies. Anyway; I won't drag the discussion out all night, as it'll only derail the thread. How are you the day after that big let down. I'll be honest; I'd be raging if that was us. All we ask of our team is that if we go down, we go down having given it our best shot.

Not raging at the performance last night. We know we are nowhere near that level.

I am raging at the way the previous manager was treated. Raging that we appointed a manager who deliberately undermined the previous manager. Raging we have spent millions during this window and , IMO, weakened the team.

Sunday is huge. It’s the way things are up here. No matter how bad things are beating them makes everything feel that little bit better

The city coped fine with the numbers.
It was Rangers fans who couldn't cope with the big screen breaking down that was the issue.
Had they not attacked the very people trying to fix the problem they may have been able to watch the game rather than trash the city centre.

Even if you win on Sunday, which I dont think you will, we will still win the league imo.

Nope, both Turkish clubs have huge world followings as like the Glasgow pair there are ex pat Turks working in nearly every country around the world. In fact whilst the pair are big boys in the Turkish league winning most times, four other sides have won that league in the last 15 years making it more competitive than the SPL.

Nethertheless the Turkish clubs record in Europe is actually poor with only one semi final appearance in the CL and one Europa win and two semis in the entire history.

Celtic and Rangers do get group stages in the CL but seem to perform very poorly in those groups.

Wait until this year, we’ll show you. :)

Tricky as all those other clubs will be relishing the challenge.

Stay safe if you travel to any of those away games. Absolute loon following at Lazio and Feyenoord and the Madrid lot are not far behind! But it is the Policia Municipal one has to look out for. I had the pleasure of being baton charged by those lovely chaps whilst queuing to get into the Atleti stadium when attending a Europa last 32 game with some Bolton mates back in 2008. Women and kids were not spared.

Only a few short days ago you were winning the treble at a canter. How did that go for you ?
