Rangers thread | 2025/26

Who I want? I never wanted rid of GvB but that boat has sailed.

I have a horrible feeling it’s going to be wee Slippy!! I won’t last long on FF if that’s the case

McInnes but would he leave Hearts at the moment? I think it’s a possibility. Paisley boy, Rangers through n through.

Kevin Muscat was the first I thought of but not sure the timing is right for him. He has / had close ties to the City Group

Sean Dyche makes a lot of sense with those behind the scenes having close ties to Everton.

It’s just my opinion but I believe we could have had a successful season if we’d brought in just about anybody but Martin. I believe the season could have been saved if we had moved sooner to chase that fraud out of the club weeks ago when it was glaringly obvious it was never going to work! It’s possibly just too late now to turn this season around but we simply have to get the right man in place soon.
Its a relief they ain't asking you. McKinnes is the guy I would want too. I hope they go with Slippy. Del would be a real worry. As you said, 1 in 9. I'm thinking of your well being. You were right about Gio, if you're right about Slippy it could send you over the edge. :)

Shows you how far down Rangers have went when you are debating about McInnes or slippy best for the job.
If it only came down to those two I would tell slippy to fuck off.
An appointment not good enough for Hearts far less Rangers.

I wasn't big on Gerrard in the summer, i thought fresh ownership, new project, new start.

But where we are, how disconnected everyone is, the lack of leadership within the team, and the club as a whole, i don't think it's time for a 'project' type manager. I think we need stature and a leader, with someone that can organise us first, over a coach all about football philosophy, someone that understands the club, and someone that understands the league.

So for me, McInnes and Gerrard are 'safer' choices that i would go for. Gerrard is obviously more available than Del just now.

I'm guessing that a lot of that support is driven by sentiment. He stopped the ten in a row, after all. He doesn't convince me as a manager, though. As good as he was at Rangers, he was (to use the Glaswegian terminology, utter pish at Villa.
Absolutely it is. And even the sentiment is a bit weird to me considering the raising of standards he was supposedly a driving force behind still only led to 1 league title in 3 years and a collection of domestic cup and champions league qualifying fails. And as you say he's been abject in the jobs he's had since.

Good at Rangers?

He won 1 trophy. Callum Davidson won more at St Johnstone!!

He failed in every domestic cup competition

His failure to get past a bang average 10 man Malmo and fail to reach the Champions League groups cost the club tens of millions. A real sliding doors moment as we had no money to improve squad. He walks out and they bring in Ange and back him in the January and we’ve never recovered

He blocked the sale of numerous players when their market value was at their peak and those players left for nothing again costing the club tens of millions

Repeated post Christmas collapses.

That trophy might have stopped ten but so what? He’s proven himself to be a failure of a manager

Sorry but being better than Pedro Caxhnia is not enough

ETA… Sorry you’re getting the brunt of my frustration at Gerrard fan boys pish on FF
I've spoke before numerous times on FF about my reservations with Gerrard coming back. None of them are points that haven't been made by other dissenters either tbf but if he does come back then obviously I'd support it until it becomes impossible not to. A bit like any of the managers we've had lately.

Id be really interested to see the team he surrounds himself with. Can't see Beale being back as his assistant.

Resigned myself to having to accept it’s going to be Gerrard.

Positives…

He’s still well thought of in the game and will be able to attract players to the club

Knows the club and the demands of managing the club.

Knows his limitations and will bring in back room staff befitting the stature of the club

Good in front of the camera and dresses as a Rangers manager should!! We have standards , history and traditions that he will uphold! Get those brogues polished!! This was sadly lacking in that fucking fraud Russell Martin!

Knows what it means to beat those bastards and did so on a regular basis.

Biggest positive…. He’s not Russell Martin

Negative?
It's Steven Gerrard - again.

As for "we have standards" - they haven't been shared by the disgruntled fans who protested against Martin.

It was that fraud Martins inability / unwillingness to respect those standards that led to the fans reaction which was pretty tame

Is brown brogues in the job spec? Did it start with Walter Smith? Although he was stylish, Souness tended to wear trackies - not as bad as Martin O'Neill who was usually full kit wanker with boots and shinpads in case he had to sub himself on as a trialist.

I'd go for Dyche - he's a better manager than Slippy but Rangers are not a big draw any more, much like our former city rivals.
