RB Leipzig (A) | Post Match Thread

We are still capable of that level (although it is bit much in expecting it week in week out) and we are making sure that we don't get hit on the counter attack on a regular basis.
Do we agree, that if we attack quicker - and therefore our back line isn't drawn forward as much, we'd be less susceptible to these consistent counter attacks that make us look like we are playing with 2 at the back? The idea that we "control" possession and that helps us defensively is a misnomer in my opinion. When we were at our best - one, we couldn't give a fuck if you had the ball, coz when we had the ball we were gonna do you, but two - we attacked with such pace and attacking intent that even if you got the ball, our back line weren't anywhere near the half way line.

We're in a good position to get through this tie but my big concern is against the better teams we need to be more direct. We MUST start playing Haaland through. The man looks FUCKING FURIOUS. He is going to waste at the moment.

I don't know whether it's the players not lifting their heads up and therefore not seeing him in time, them not having the balls to take risks and attempt the through ball or if pep is ordering them not to play it through. Whatever it is, i's baffling. Pre world cup we were making those passes so much more often! His first open play goal for us vs West Ham, he's made countless runs that would have resulted in similar goals but for one reasons or another those passes haven't even been attempted let alone come off.

If we're to win this comp we've got to find a way to get him the ball in good positions.

There were times when we got really caught out by playing fast attacking football and teams were wise to drop deep and limit the space behind. What we are trying to do now is draw teams out (although at times it looks boring) against sides who love to counter attack.

Had an off game against Forest.

The team is not good enough at creating clear cut chances. From the wingers running into packed defence to midfielders not providing a through ball to Haaland.

We keep the ball but don’t have the explosive pace needed. Pep said it himself. We have seemingly recruited the wrong type of player and why have we not replaced David silva?

Recycling possession is not the answer. We either create 20 chances and fluff 15 of those or we create nothing clear cut like tonight.

Oh and before I get the normal answers, I am not having a go at the players or pep. We don’t have the tools anymore. Big summer ahead.

I’m am not disappointed as these players have given us some great moments. Can’t state it enough but we need a new playmaker. Midfield revamp and new fullbacks.

It’s funny. If you swap the half’s with each other, you probably see a lot more people in here being optimistic opposed to pessimistic.

The only issue I have today (outside the blatant handball) is Pep not making subs. He is not making proactive moves during recent matches and is always making reactive moves to try and save it once it’s too late. Today he didn’t even make a reactive move. Then he ironically mentions players showing fatigue playing 4 games in 10 days in his presser.

It is what it is. If you told me prior to the R16 that all we had to do was beat Leipzig at home to advance into the quarters, I’d have taken it in a heartbeat.

For the most part the team he put out was fufilling his game plan. If they weren't then they would of got subbed.

It doesn't "look" boring. It is boring. Also, it doesn't work. See Everton, Forest, Palace first Half, Brentford, man utd, Leipzig, Spurs, Southampton...

Everton should have had a man sent off in the first half (undone by poor defending). Forest we didn't take our chances. Brentford we had players who had one eye on the world cup (which did back fire as we conceded in injury time), man utd we were done by a dodgy offside goal despite Grealish scoring first( we have thumped them at home). Leipzig we have another leg and will open up more as we know what to expect from them.

"They [Leipzig] are faster and quicker, except Kyle and Erling...*shakes head*...the rest[of our team]...*shakes head*...the pace they [Leipzig] have we don't have it."

Pep. Post-match press conference.

All true, and yet all won't matter at the end if we don't win fuck all - which honestly i don't mind, if we actually start playing football that's enjoyable to watch.

We have a good chance in winning the FA Cup. Already knocked out Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Can someone tell me why we are playing as if away goals rule is still in effect?! That was the most ponderous I remember us being in the midfield for the longest!

RB Leipzig do have pace in abundance. If we went direct too often it wouldn't of been a good outcome for us.
