I might be wrong but I was udner the impression that you can't downgrade a red card to a yellow card, can't think of an appeal that has resulted in that outcome. I thought that it is either completely recinded, so no card, or it stands as a red.
John Terry a couple of seasons ago when he was sent off at our place?
He got off on a technicality:

Oh yes. The card stood but no ban & another case of the FA making up rules when it suits them.

It wouldn't be half as annoying if there was consistency in the game regarding tackles. the things united get away with. ronaldo kicking everything that moves and the FA declaring it "handbags" thne swp gets a retrospective ban for it. the FA back rooney because he is their golden boy and does what he likes.

if rodwells isnt a red the vinnies isnt a red. perhaps we can use that clip as evidence in the appeal

Anyone got the Rodwell incident link please?

http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/everton-v-liverpool-rodwell-red-card

here you go

Rodwell's momentum means that after sliding in and winning the ball his legs are in the air at the point of contact with the player*. While I fully agree that blatantly dangerous challenges need clamping down on, I honestly think it's nigh on impossible for any player to make a legitimate slide tackle when the game is being played at a fast pace and for the tackling player to keep his legs on the ground at all times throughout the tackling process. Many of these tackles that are now getting reds are clean, fair, robust challenges but their natural momentum is carrying them through and making contact with the player, something which - short of banning slide tackling completely - in many cases is unavoidable. While his leg was indeed in the air at the point of contact Rodwell wasn't dangerously high IMO, unlike the young Liverpool player (can't remember whether it was Spearing or Shelvey) sent off at Fulham the other week who won the ball but appeared to be blatantly high on his follow through.

*Although Rodwell did make contact with the opposition player, it needs to be noted that the opposition player was that cheating, diving, racist twat Suarez who clearly made a fucking meal of it.

The card always stands (unless it's mistaken identity). They only ever rescind the ban. In the Terry case, the referee effectively sent him off for the wrong thing, which is how he got off.

Can we also argue the wet conditions caused him to slip making the tackle worse.

if the FA feel there wasnt nothing wrong with wayne rooneys kick in montenegro isnt worth a red card and they appealed agaisnt it, then they should be no complaints about us appealing for this.

Spot on - it sends a ridiculously hypocritical message. So ridiculous the English language fails me in articulating the very point
Crass, bent , CHEATS!

All we're really talking about is the length of the ban he'll receive. Anything less than a 4 game ban would be a victory for City.

Surely, in keeping with the FA's traditions of 'you can't do that for this type of case', we're looking at either 4 games or none.
