Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

True, but Pep also can't legislate for Laporte handball and also allowing Viniscus a 30-yard free run in on goal.

We scored four at home, that should be enough against any team, whether it be Real Madrid or not.
But Pep brought Ferna on at RB - that was always going to be troublesome.

We are still for me the best team in Europe, with the best manager. However Pep needs to stop with favouritism and blind faith in some players.

Laporte cost us in the 1st Leg.
Cancelo cost us in the 2nd Leg.
Ederson cost us in both Legs.

Laporte not closing down Vini Jr.
Laporte handballing.

Ederson didn't set himself properly for Benzema's 1st goal.
Could have done better closing down Vini Jr with the 2nd.

Cancelo crossing the ball in the box to no-one on 85mins, when we need to run down the clock.
Cancelo playing Benzema onside for Rodrygo 1st goal.
Cancelo watching Benzema cross the ball and not even attempting to cut out the cross.

Ederson not claiming the Benzema cross or smothering Rodrygo.
Ederson not saving a header right above his head for Rodrygo 2nd.

We have to cut Ruben some slack for his minor errors, he could have done better, but for 89mins he played well, those around him let him down.

Laporte has to be replaced, Cancelo can't be trusted in big games, against Leeds he slipped over his own feet, a total lack of concentration. Ederson cannot be our number 1 keeper.
What a load of absolute bollocks

Because Cancelo can't defend. He's failed to cut out the cross for the first goal with a half-arsed effort.

Same half-arsed effort Grealish attempts to stop the cross for the second.

We failed to so the basic things in the biggest moments.
I’m glad I’m not the only one, Cancelo is such a poor defender. Takes far too many risks in the wrong 3rd of the pitch for me. As for his positioning for the 1st goal. I coach 12year olds and tell them to keep a good line with the main centre back, he just doesn’t need to be in there. Benzema is then yards offside.

I do fear what impact this result will have on the remaining 4 games. Fingers are firmly crossed.

You basically said Ederson is a useless lump and cost us a place in the CL Final. I sometimes wonder what games people watch.

I’ll say it again. Jesus Christ on a bike.
Listen….we lose the first goal because he didn’t move for a simple cross then straight from the restart the fucking clown launches it straight down the pitch to Courtois to give them back possession….straight away… unbelievable…various journalists today asking questions about his performances over the two legs…

Thread is absolutely mad.

We were clearly the better side.

Should have slit their throats in the first leg but missed several chances.

We handled them superbly for 90 minutes. The Pep masterclass eulogising was being readied. The pundits were wanking over a City v Dippers showpiece.

Then it just went completely pear in an absolutely mental last 2 minutes. You cannot blame Pep or anyone in particular for that. Shit happens and it can be a very cruel **** when it does.

We are literally on the verge. Get some actual strikers in, man the fuck up, and go and win the **** next time.
My man :)

Pure bollocks, for starters we're very rarely in a losing position. You do realise it was Real Madrid we played last night and not Bournemouth?
We are very rarely in losing positions, but when we are we very rarely look like getting back into the game. If you honestly thought after they went level, we would get back into it I don’t know what to tell you.

I’m think I’m still in a kind of state of shock even midday the day after.

So many layers to this. The feeling we should’ve been home and hosed in the first leg. The nagging doubt that even if we got through we may well have lost to the Scousers. And then being two goals to the good with a minute of normal time remaining. Where the hell did six minutes come from. But even when they scored I thought no worries just keep it tight keep hold of the ball. And then we screw up again. Then Diaz for some unknown reason fouls Benzema as he’s going away from the goal. And then we just offered nothing in extra time. So disappointed. Trying to console myself with, in the last two seasons, we’ve been in the top two and then the top four teams in Europe, something we could only dream about not so long ago.

But now there’s a sense that we might be so deflated we choke on the next four games. I do hope not.

Come on City CTID.

I’m normally fine after a Kip and the cold light of day dawns, not today, my guts are still being pulled apart by wild horses … What happened last night was unforgivable (over 24hrs) the lads were already dreaming of Paris and winning the trophy, at this level that’s suicide…
Forget the ref being a **** and forget Pep, this is all on the 11 on the field at the death….
Only a win at the weekend will go some way to easing the pain of this loss …

I'm only just emerging... I've taken the day off work & avoided all contact with the outside world because the hurt is so fuckin deep.

Moments before their equaliser I wondered if it was safe to dare to dream of Paris & then **BANG**! From then I knew it was over. When their 2nd went in my body went cold. When they got the penalty I felt sick.

We did what we needed to & Real were poor overall, but I knew the attacking threat they posed & their ability to score a goal out of nothing was going to present a danger until the final whistle. Don't get me started on 6 fuckin minutes either!

Bernardo was far & away my MoTM. He was everywhere & ran the show. The whole team were brilliant overall, but there was something off with KDB all night & I predicted he'd be substituted because he looked fucked after 15 minutes.

For their first goal, Ederson waited for the ball to come to him & in a flash Rodrygo stole in & turned the ball past him. For their aggregate equaliser, he rose like a fuckin salmon & not even a brick wall was gonna stop that bullet header. For the penalty, I swear Dias's studs touched the ball, but VAR gave it.

To get to within 8 mins of the Champions League Final with no strikers & such a small squad is nothing short of amazing. Hopefully we'll resolve the striker issue, get a world class CDM & a right back as understudy to Walker because I see Cancelo as a better Left Back than Right.

I'm gutted, but it's gone. Newcastle is a massive game on Sunday, & it would have been regardless of last night's result. We gotta pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, lick our wounds & go again.

We were by far the better team, but in football you don't win points for performances, it's all about putting the ball in the onion bag. In this respect Real did it 6 times & we only managed it 5. There's our problem & it's been our issue for the last 2-3 seasons.

Last night was the epitome of a match where a world class strikeforce would have created something from nothing & possibly made the difference. We'll hopefully plug these holes for next season. For now it's all about Newcastle. )(

Last night showed just how weak and unbalanced our squad is,and how vulnerable we become when a couple are missing.

We have never replaced Aguero, took far too long to find Dinho's,and we lack quality outside of the first choice fullbacks. An abundance of attacking midfielders,in favour of the latter, was always going to bite us on the arse.

Its mind blowing, and so fucking frustrating,we have arguably been Europe's best team over the past few seasons yet we have no trophy to prove it.......our ability to implode needs urgent attention - and no one from the board room to the cleaner should be immune.

My main concern is that as disappointed as i am,i am not at all surprised.
You're right, but we've moved on to the man up rallying calls and Henry V speeches now - as good as they are.

Holy smoke ?? Just breath and let lungs fill up with air

digging players out is not good and digging world-class players that have won title and cups is also not good
it's a team sport and the WHOLE TEAM win or lose together, that's football
They are not world class though are They?? That's the problem, you really think Cancelo and Laporte are world-class defenders surely not.

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this the most wounded I’ve been after a result and that includes relegation games etc.. . To be so close and throw it away is very hard to take. I don’t even blame anyone I think it was the footballing gods shitting on us.
I had reason to be disappointed despite our narrow win last week . Somehow we need to lift ourselves for Sunday because the players need us more than ever . Imagine how they’re feeling ?

i just keep thinking that for the £100m we spent on grealish, we could have brought in 2/3 top players for positions that we actually needed strengthening. The recruitment at times has been seriously questionable.
our recruitment over the years has been very good. You only need to look at the trophy haul to see that but I think a bit of complacency has crept in especially in the last transfer window. Anyway at the end of the day the CL is only a cup competition and you need a bit of luck along the way to win it. Let's hope Real Madrid beat the scousers we win the League and Chelsea win the FA cup. At least that scenario will put a sock in the mouth of them arrogant cnuts 30 miles west.

I read an article recently - I think it was Sam Lee - who gave stats about how much the ball is actually in play for each club's matches in the league this season. It was a painful read.
When C4 televised Serie A games on a Sunday they always chalked up the ball-in-play time. 'Twas the exception if the game got to over 60minutes of the being in play!
