Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

Somebody emailed me a tweet, not linking it here because it's from one of the assholes continuously being on our case, but it is bloody telling about Pep, his teams and CL...I would venture even further and say it happens in the league games as well when we grind to stop.
CL games when we were eliminated
2017 - 2 goals conceded in 8 minutes
2018- 3 goals conceded in 19 minutes
2019- 2 goals conceded in 3 minutes
2020- 2 goals conceded in 8 minutes
2022- 3 goals conceded in 6 minutes

Or as my favorite writer used to say 'and so it goes...'

Sat at Madrid airport, surrounded by all their plastic fans going back to wherever they come from. Some very sad Blues. Well...firstly - well done to the fans - perfect behaviour all afternoon in the square - despite being faced by hoards of bored Spanish 'RoboCops' hoping it would kick off, and great vocal support..until the very end. And even then as we waited to get out - some choruses of 'We never win at home...'.

I am not here to say it was Pep's fault for the subs, or the invisible Mahrez (until the goal) or KDB not being quite right, etc etc etc. It is what it is - and it fucking hurts. The walk back to the hotel was both humiliating and desperate. I did think the team - other than Ferna, Bernardo and Foden all seemed to fuck off down the tunnel without so much as a half hearted clap to the faithful perched up in the Gods - but I suppose, after that you just want to get off that pitch pretty damn fast.

So well played Real, even if that meant fouling, faking injuries and generally fucking about - but that's how you sometimes need to win - it might look ugly (although not as ugly as their neighbours) but there's a game plan experience that we seem to lack on these stages.

So - onto Newcastle lads - heads up - time to focus on the title. We need to move on - and we can spend the summer working out why and what went wrong - we have a title to retain.

As for Real - go fucking win it now.....please....its the least you owe us.

Maybe Yaya's agent wasn't telling porkies when he said that an African Shaman had put a curse on Pep to never win the Champions League, what else can account for the last few seasons?! Both games were insane, but Real Madrid must have sold their souls to the devil for this cup, hopefully they can go on to win it if only so that them scruffs don't get it.
I thought we were pretty average last night, and Real Madrid weren't much better either tbh. But these are the moments that define you, having a goal scorer takes you to the next level when really required.

Did the Shaman backdate the curse whilst Yaya was also playing in it all those years?

Yeh I've seen this, though seen the one which goes back further pre City.

2010 - 2 in 13 minutes
2014 - 3 in 18
2015 - 3 in 17
2017 - 2 in 8
2018- 3 in 19
2019- 2 in 3
2020- 2 in 8
2022- 3 in 6

I should add I've not checked it's actually true but there is a pattern.

This is the other side of the play off final with Gillingham! Still have typical City within us! We'll bounce back and carry on!

It really didn’t feel like we did much wrong- just a crazy couple of minutes which left us shell shocked. The one thing we need to do in future is what everyone else likes to call ‘experience’ which is the time-wasting and rolling around, it obviously works whilst trying to protect a lead - we could have done that at 1-1, some subs some playacting and the jobs done -
I think the problem was that the second goal came so quickly after the first, there wasn’t enough time for a tactical reset.

I thought we turned a corner last year in the champions league with our defending. We didn’t concede that many goals and we was so resiliant. Our defending in the CL this year was just a shambles.

So mad at pep, he fucked it with three subs when we haf it in the bag , it disrupted us and when it went to extra we had no kev, ffs or gabby to grab us a goal , he is so insecure he fails the lads again and again
The 3 subs were all good ones, and made our goal. We were fine for the last 15 minutes until injury time.

He tried the same blue print/tactics as he did away at Athletico Madrid and it backfired that's my analysis

Also got sent this, 3 in 6 minutes last night is pushing it as two were during 7 mins of added time played then the final one after 5 mins of extra time (still a sh*t show defensively).

Looked into 2020 and 2019..2020 was a late Lyon goal when we were pushing on - the goals were on 79 and 87.

We also scored 2 quick goals vs Madrid and Spurs (2019) which ofc don't fit the narrative. The goals in that game early on were: Sterling 4 mins, Son 7 mins and 10 mins, Bernardo 11 mins and Sterling 21 mins. So we were 3-2 up after 21 mins.

So not covering ourselves well there but not as bad as it seems. Not looked at the other years.

I'd agree we were poor defending for sure, but could have put to bed in leg 1 with better strike rate

I do hope Stones is fit for run in Laporte / Dias neither looked commanding....

True, but Pep also can't legislate for Laporte handball and also allowing Viniscus a 30-yard free run in on goal.

We scored four at home, that should be enough against any team, whether it be Real Madrid or not.

The goal came from great play between Zinchenko and Gundogan who then slotted it through to Bernardo. Grealish then came on and had two very good chances to score which he created himself pretty much. Who went off was maybe an issue. I'd have taken Foden off rather than Gabby. He had a quiet game and didn't look up to speed with it, particularly in the centre. Gabby might have ensured Grealish's shot went over the line through following the ball, rather than stopping like Foden did which allowed Mendy to get back and clear it.

The Fernandinho for Mahrez sub was to try and prevent Vinicius from having success down that side, but perhaps the change in shape there was the downfall.

If Pep hadn't have made subs and we had have conceded we'd be crucifying him. His changes got us the goal, the players then didn't see it out. When the first went in someone should have done a Militao and rolled around on the floor for 5 minutes to take the sting out of the game and kill a bit of momentum. Allow us to reset.
