Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

I believe VAR reviews all penalty incidents, as well as goals, potential red cards (not second yellows) and mistaken identity if the wrong player is carded.
But in this case there seemed no real involvement by VAR. Just yeah it's a goal and show a replay that doesn't show the swallow dive by Benzema too bad and get on with the pen. It was like christmas for uefa and their 'european royalty' final could take place. For a man who didn't seem to know what a foul was he pointed to the spot right away. Job done once again. It's the assist by us that really pisses me off.

Still suffering from a sense of melancholy. And no, if we'd got through, I don't think we would have lost to Liverpool. We outplayed them for about half of the match at Anfield, and thoroughly at our gaff. Because we're the better team. The cup game was a match too far in too short a space of time, with a number of key players out — and despite that, we weren't at all far from levelling.
We would have beaten them in Paris. Real will not. We utterly outplayed Real for 180 minutes. Liverpool will, and there'll be no miraculous comebacks.
But anyway, the only thing I'm waiting for now is Sunday. That's the only way I can reset. A convincing victory. Anything else can barely be contemplated.
Unfortunately we needed to outplay Madrid for 186 minutes...and another 30 when they equalised. A tough lesson for us.

It’s like the final last year.

I, and many others knew the game was over as soon as the team sheet came out.

Just like the other night, knew it was over as soon as they started peppering our goal at 89 mins. I said to my mrs in front of the telly and to my mates on a group chat “we’re losing this game”.

I am still thinking City being 5 nil up with 3 minutes to go we can still fuck this up ;)

And with VAR I have to wait till the players gave gone home in case the VAR ref calls the players back out !

I should know better at my age but just off to have my M.C.F.C tattoo done.
When i made the appointment on Tuesday the tattooist said " you sure you don't want to wait until after the Real Madrid game".

Why not look at the present ? . Madrid are already Spanish champions by a mile and Liverpool are chasing a quadruple. These teams are fully deserving of playing the CL final.
I'm looking at the start of the competition. When all those teams ENTERED Atleti were Spanish Champions and we were PL champions. Real and Liverpool were not!

I'm not making a point about who deserves to be in the final, just that when they entered the competition in the group stages they weren't. Simple fact!

Getting sick and tired of the increasing levels of cheating that’s going on in the game today.

The holding of the face and head when there is no contact, or minimal at best. The flopping, the rolling, the grasping at broken legs that suddenly heal when the ref asks him if he wants the Physio and to leave the field.

And, I’m not just talking about other teams’ players!

Lastly, I’m the furthest thing from a Dyche fan, but I do like how he calls out the bullshit that creeping into the game. He does it with a sense of humor, but it’s pointed nonetheless!

It’d be sour grapes to complain about Casemiro and his THREE non-existent yellow cards, especially when juxtaposed against Sterling’s brilliant tackle…and subsequent foul and yellow card!

There should have been a “pull back” yellow card in the first minute. Ref bottled it and made the rod for his own back (IF it had not been inserted pre-game by UEFA?!), just as Tierney did at Leeds on the weekend!

Can’t complain about any of the decisions around the goals, but he certainly did his damnedest to influence the game throughout, especially by ignoring the Casemiro yellows AND the prevalence of his other fouls.

And, DEBE, while we are talking about Rugby, let’s mic up the officials, make the audio available (unedited!) post-game, and let’s add a layer of transparency to an increasingly gambling funded sport at a time when even objective viewing raises suspicions.
Couldn't agree more, CB. I want to hear what the bastards are saying, and I want to see what they are seeing. Anything less just invokes suspicion when you consider the decisions they've made elsewhere on the pitch. And goals scored in games? How many goals are scored after a ref deems a foul tackle to be perfectly legitimate? It's the 'reluctance', or otherwise(!) to penalise these tackles that allows a different pattern of play to develop whether a team scores or not! We stop for a foul and the dynamic changes.

Spanish newspaper reported that only 5 minutes and 35 seconds of football was played in the final 15 minutes of extra time, and the ref blew early, by 25 seconds, to say it went against us is an understatement, the ref and the officials have a lot to answer for, especially as one of the RM players got away with two bookable offences.

Its like I said in a post on the 4-3 thread, how is it that teams almost always score when they have a shot on target. Maybe goalkeeper situation needs looking at. Tin hat on.

Oh come on. We were home and hosed but for Cancelo and Ederson.
We could have played another hour with what was left on the field and we weren't scoring.
No leadership on or off the field at that stage
Sure the officials were shite but they are not the reason we imploded.
2 goal lead with 89 mins on the clock.
Just let that sink in for a minute.

Too gutted to post yesterday but have to think that it just wasn't meant to be. I just think that 9 times out of 10 one of the Grealish efforts would have resulted in a goal and 9 times out of 10 they don't score both of those goals. With the way Real have got to the final just got to hope and pray that their name is on the Cup and if we win the league most of the hurt from Wednesday will be erased.....COME ON CITY !!

I’d probably agree with you about the lack of leadership on and off the field if the goals had been scored 10mins apart. But they were scored within a minute of each other. There just wasn’t enough time between goals for the team to regroup and for the manager and senior players to exercise leadership. It was all down to individual responsibility in those few moments. It was down to players making the right decisions in a situation which they will have faced numerous times before.

If we had survived that one attack after the first goal I believe we would have regrouped and seen out the remaining minutes, because we have done before.

Which is why we needed someone to take the heat out of the situation. Booting it back to them only invited more pressure on. As well as Jack did when he came on and I know he's not a defender but could he have done more to stop the cross coming in for their second?
It's gone now anyway ( thankfully it wasn't the Final) , I often wonder do the players get as annoyed as the fans after something like this happens, I suppose Sunday will tell us more

Jack was left trying to cover two men, he should have had help from a team mate. That cross should have not have been allowed to happen but it was not Jack's fault.

You shouldn't need to put a tin hat on mate. Anyone without their blue tinted specs on should be able to see that Ederson is no better at shot stopping than Claudio Bravo. He's only there to play sweeper and kick the ball a long way every now and then.

Decent professionals (in any field of work) put things behind them and get on with the next job.

I've said it so many times... Sentiment is for fans.

They'll be right on Sunday.

I don't think people are saying the officials were shite, shite would imply they just made errors or were incompetent. Somehow missing what could be as much as 6 minutes off a 15 minute half of football is more than incompetent, it's highly questionable in terms of integrity. Regardless of how shite we were answers should be provided by or on behalf of the referee

Now I’m home I’m thinking more straight I thought on the flight would I have rather lost to real in Madrid or the cunts in Paris in the final, in all honesty without walker etc I think we would have got beat that’s just my personal opinion as they take nearly every chance and we need several so I’m more at ease with it now and hope real smash the fuckers
