I would agree he's decent at LB but even there...watch him on the first Liverpool goal at the Etihad and you have to ask yourself what on earth is he doing...that said, for whatever reason he has become a liability defensively whenever he lines up on the right which is supposedly his natural side...

We’re usually quite good at running the ball into the corner, but the rest of it just isn’t the way we usually manage leads. When we do that sort of stuff we’re just not any good at it.

Our way is to keep the ball, pass it around, make the opposition chase it. And we’re usually exceptionally good at that. The best example being the derby in 18/19. We were applauded for scoring our third goal after 43 passes. But for the first 42 passes we weren’t trying to score, just keeping the ball and winding down the clock.

It was a failure to keep possession that cost us on Wednesday, not a lack of rolling about on the ground. The player who we really missed in the last few minutes was John Stones. He’s usually our “conductor” in those situations. Brilliant at receiving the ball and switching the direction of play.

When City scored, a huge cheer erupted in the pub. A cheer of relief with more than a hint of victory in that moment.
Surely City were through to the final now? A 2 goal lead and only a few minutes to negotiate.
I thought this, the rest of the people in the room thought it, (2 curious rag fans left!), the players and fans in the stadium must have thought it and probably Pep himself thought so too.
Happy days!

He lets the ball bounce rather than heading it or controlling it first time, which I hate in a defender.
Maybe he loses the flight of it concentrating on the man.

He’s not the only one who does this. Out of all our defenders I would say, not perhaps the most skilful or comfortable on the ball, but Ake has the best defensive instincts.

Just my opinion.

His attacking instincts are exceptional too. He attacks corners like you wouldn't believe. He was even in the right place to slot home at Leeds. I was never sure he was our type of player but he is made of the right stuff and has a very strong mentality.
 
Turned it off when the 90 mins were up, I knew we weren’t scoring. I think that’s the worse thing about it, the fact you can predict that a team as good as ours won’t score in 30 minutes of football is infuriating.

I mention it again, it’s all about mentality for me. Don’t know how you fix it.

Seriously? If you did turn it off at 2-2 and extra time to come then why bother watching at all?
Crazy stuff.

I suspect that many of us who witnessed David Pleat dancing across the pitch at Maine Road will have had a twinge of deja vu.

Look on the positive side... Madrid may have been a sickener, but at least we didn't get relegated!

We probably all Had but I can't get my head around why you wouldn't watch it.
Not unlike ourselves against QPR where we never looked like scoring until we did twice.
I kinda hoped for one last twist, sadly it wasn't to be.

You replace a couple of players in key position's with players that possess that do or die mentality.
Haaland is a great start.Just need similar in midfield and defence.

It’s easier said than done that mate. Haaland is a great start, if it is done. De jong and a lb would be mint but it all sounds too good to be true, most of the time it is.

I know....but have faith.The club and the manager are very aware we have been treading water in the transfer market,I suspect the shackles will be released this summer and the gaps and deficiencies rectified properly.

All the City fans at the Bernabeu knew it was over too, everyone was sat down for most of extra time. As soon as that first goal went in we were done. We went from singing Ole’s to Madrids fans going mental.
