Reasonably priced laptop

Chromebook under £200
With a very good chance that whatever she gets from school won't work or 'has issues'.

@KnaresboroughBlue Stick with a straight Windows 10 laptop, mentioning games has definitely raised the price however. Do you have a budget?

I've had to cart my desktop upstairs on Friday and back down last night due to working from home, I've been considering getting a laptop myself but I have no clue how long we'll be working from home (I wouldn't mind it full time TBH)

Didn't really want to go above £500. The gaming would only be light.

I’ll need a computer towards the end of the year. Would anyone recommend shops, online etc? If anyone is in the business and can assist with a good deal then shout out loud and I’ll let you know closer to. Whilst I’ve never bought one, I think I’d like to budget around £500. It doesn’t need to be all singing and dancing.

You'll be surprised how much gaming on a laptop changes things. My son burnt out the power supply on ours a few years back and he only played basic games, he said. Kids start with games that don't need much power but soon gravitate to more needy ones.

It would have to be light at that budget I'm afraid, you're looking at CPU hosted graphics rather than a separate graphics card (I'm talking new laptops here). I would start with a basic spec of an SSD boot drive (the difference is astounding and the bigger the better) and 8GB of RAM memory. An i3 or i5 CPU or an AMD Ryzen CPU would be next on my list. Windows 10 is a must for your needs.

Is there any model/brand that you would recommend?

I've actually never bought a laptop so don't really have the necessary personal experience but the HP model listed above this post looks decent. You can get a Ryzen powered model at slightly above your budget at £549 from Curry's which has all you need and the Ryzen built in graphics aren't bad for budget gaming. 14inch screens are cheaper but it's down to what you're looking for considering it may be for long term use.

Oh, and before I forget, they usually come with free additional security software. I would immediately uninstall them and just let Windows Defender & firewall do it's job.
