Reasonably priced laptop

I've actually never bought a laptop so don't really have the necessary personal experience but the HP model listed above this post looks decent. You can get a Ryzen powered model at slightly above your budget at £549 from Curry's which has all you need and the Ryzen built in graphics aren't bad for budget gaming. 14inch screens are cheaper but it's down to what you're looking for considering it may be for long term use.

Looks excellent for a laptop of that price for gaming.

Use Bootcamp software to dual boot your MacBook, it's very easy to install and then you just need a license for Windows 10 Home (£119 for genuine, ISO file can be downloaded free if you already have a license) and you can use an Office 365 Student license (free if registered with school email address) for Word, Excel etc...

With a very good chance that whatever she gets from school won't work or 'has issues'.

@KnaresboroughBlue Stick with a straight Windows 10 laptop, mentioning games has definitely raised the price however. Do you have a budget?

I've had to cart my desktop upstairs on Friday and back down last night due to working from home, I've been considering getting a laptop myself but I have no clue how long we'll be working from home (I wouldn't mind it full time TBH)
Because the programmes may not run properly?

The prices have gone up because everyone is having to buy one to work from home . I got my kids an Asus with Ryzen 5 for Christmas and they are happy with it . Ryzen are very good for playing games.
My wife is a teacher and last week they asked all the kids if they have access to a device and if they didn't they are going to borrow them one. So check with the school
