If you just want a PC to work from home and it mainly involves just typing and nothing intensive many people could benefit from running a Linux machine and they could drop their spec requirement a considerable amount.
For the amount extra that getting a gaming PC will cost you, you might as well buy a games console.
Anyway, here's an option.
My youngest daughter's school has set the children up with online lessons so they can keep on with their studies while they are off school. The platform seems to only really work well with Windows and everything we have at home is Apple and is in use for working from home anyway.
So I'm looking at picking up a reasonably priced Windows laptop for her birthday that she could use for that purpose and also for playing a few games.
I don't know much about Windows machines so would welcome any suggestions.
Out of interest, have you considered a desktop instead? Laptops and teenagers (or younger) can lead to broken screens or damaged hard drives due to dropping them - I’ve found that out twice already!
I’ve gone desktop for mine this time because I also wanted to set up an area that my kids could consider to be work or school space, rather than doing it on a laptop in front of the tv or lying down in their beds.
Only advice I’d give when buying a laptop or PC is to not bother with anything that has less than 8gb memory. It will drive you fucking insane.
I've heard that if you have an SSD, then the amount of RAM you need becomes less important. That's why there's no difference in RAM now than there was when I last bought a computer about 5 years ago. When I was a kid, it would double every few years.Only advice I’d give when buying a laptop or PC is to not bother with anything that has less than 8gb memory. It will drive you fucking insane.
