Reasonably priced laptop

It's the keyboard more than anything. I've always worked at a PC.
I bought a previous version of this type ... https://www.asus.com/uk/2-in-1-PCs/ASUS-Transformer-Pro-T304UA/

You can remove the keyboard and use a bluetooth one instead but they are pretty good (except for the trackpad which is too sensitive and can't be adjusted enough). This gives you an all-in-one solution, a touch screen tablet, a laptop with the keyboard or use it as a powerful pc with external keyboard and monitor.

Before anyone buys either a laptop or a PC they need to think about what they are going to use it for, too many people get caught up in the shiny badges and the sales patter. Form a list and if that list doesn't include playing triple A games at 4K or rendering audio/Video then you wont need all the high speed RAM or loads of cores.

A well optimised 4th gen Intel set up or a good AMD APU (Let's say the 10 series) will cut through daily tasks like a hot knife through butter. The cost of the build for a decent PC with these components (Good power supply, SSD and mechanical hard drive storage) would be in the £280 price range with a new case.

My latest project has been to modify an old beige case from the XP era and fit it with an intel i7 2600k and highish end motherboard, whack a GT 1030 2GB graphics card in it, adapt the USB 1 ports to USB 3, all this was done for about £150. The more modern PC I had built for the back room has now been given to my son because my wife loves the beige one so much.

If you're just using it for writing, i'd def suggest getting a laptop instead. That way, if you are going anywhere you can take it with you. There's a lot of laptops with good keyboards nowadays, and you can always use a wireless mouse and keyboard if you really want to. I work from home a lot (now more than ever, of course) and i have my laptop connected to 3 screens (need it for work) but you could just connect yours to a monitor and have a wireless keyboard and mouse connected.

Lugging round an alienware desktop probably wouldn't suit you pal ;)

Bumping this up, as I extend my search

Looking for a home PC that must run fast, have a good 15" screen, be quiet, and be reliable with good customer support and good value for money

Asus, Acer, HP, Lenovo seem to be the main brands. I am discounting Dell as had them before and want a change, and definitely not interested in Apple

Please let me know

I think Aldi have a Medion on sale online. Don't know the price or spec but they're usually good value and quality afaik.

I'm interested why you only need a 15" monitor? Would spending a lot on that even be noticeable?

15" is standard size , no ? Don't want anything too big, but big enough because will be WFH and watching videos
21 to 24" are the most popular sizes now. All depends on how far you sit from it, how much you use it, gaming etc.

They start cheap, under £100 for a 21", and can go up a lot.
