Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

It was at that point I turned to my son & said that **** used to play for us.

If it's any consolation, I was stuck in a traffic jam on the M4 with only Five Live for company (I watched the game when I eventually got home) and it was no better than listening to Hinchcliffe. Not sure who the main commentator was, but Paul Robinson was his side kick. They might as well have had Tony Currie and Eddie Colquhoun on mic duty and had done. 90 minutes worth of nonsense about Sheffield United's 'fantastic' game plan (ie cramming everyone back in to their own area from start to finish and never mind the actual ball), how Grealish and Haaland were going down too easily, and how the (demented) home fans would feel entitled to ring into 606 to complain about the referee. What world they inhabit I do not know

Having watched the first one again a few times now, I think as soon as Håland feels the two arms around him, he just jumps to the floor. He want actually fouled to the floor, he did that himself.

On the second one, Håland fouls their lad first and then gets pulled down.

The first could easily be given but I can see why it wasn’t. The second was right not to be.

That's something that VAR should have awarded in fairness. They're hard to give on field but very easy via VAR. I thought the ref was quite good
Probably but when you look at United’s given on field pen (initiated contact dive) and our players being Rugby tackled to the ground and the ref ignores, hoping the VAR team are awake. Maybe awarding us two/three penalties in a game is a career ender for refs

The forest fan who rang in 606 on Saturday nailed it when he said VAR and the media are in cahoots with eachother about decisions and how the perception of games in the media goes hand in hand with the suspicious decisions that happen to teams in red.

Yesterday with the gobshite right back for the scousers backs it up. 2nd yellow all day, any other team and that card would be out of the refs pocket in a heartbeat.

Thought he was good yesterday.

I like a physical game and we are arguably usually the most physical team in the league. Håland usually bullies his opponents but yesterday was combatted.

We could have had a penalty for one of them but I thought by the LOTG the penalty we did get was extremely harsh so that evened out.

By the Laws of the Game, has he really made his body unnaturally bigger by sliding in and naturally using his arm to balance and the ball hitting him from close range of about two yards away?

By the Laws, I think that’s harsh.

Other than that, he was good. Booked their lad for a poor tackle on Grealish and didn’t do anything controversial. He was mostly in our favour really.

I bet a read on the SheffUtd forums would be very critical of him. I bet they think the awarded penalty was a farce.
The kid knew as soon as it happened that it was a penalty as he punched the floor in frustration and gestured to his teammate that his arms should have been behind him as for the other 2 you don’t see them given for wrestling in the box unless it’s MikeDean giving it against SWP years ago when they said they were clamping down on it and never saw another all season
